Solunar Tables - Do You believe?

I am interested in knowing if anyone uses solunar tables as a guide for fishing times. If so how accurate are the times for fish being more active. I have always wanted to plot this, but I get too busy fishing and have never doe it.

I'm like Esox Magnum - I don't pay a whole lot of attention, with limited windows to get out I take what I can get. If on the off chance everything aligns all the better.

I do believe in it however, pretty tough to argue with the evidence that many anglers have gathered over the years.

last season was the first that i made a full effort to keep a full log. i logged everything - i mean everything i could think of. after going back and re reading and charting everything here is what i came up with so far with only one years info.

every lake is different - seems like (for me anyway) it seems moon phase plays a bigger role on bigger bodys of water. not so much on smaller bodys of water - with that being said it also seems that my off peek fish tend to be smaller and harder to turn - but still very boatable. i started fishing my off peeks and minors like i would a cold front - and sure enough - bigger fish seen - but not boated. my results still seem to vary more by weather then anything else.

Seems like I have found that big fish will be moving closer to moon rise/set than anything else. I have also found that I have caught alot of fish about an hour after moon rise. Something wierd about it, but it seems to be a pattern. Anyone else notice that? I don't believe in the just go out and fish, because I feel you can be much more productive during peak periods. I only say that due to multiple fish in the boat during peak periods. I would like to hear other prospectives as I know that my findings could be biased from the hours I typcially fish.

Hiya -

I think it makes a difference, with one caveat: weather trumps everything. I don't doubt that lunar and solar periods do have some effect on fish behavior. It's something I pay attention to on the water. I think it can make a difference on pressured water (what other kind is there these days?) where feeding windows tend to get shorter.

On the other hand... It can pay off to avoid major lunar events like the full moon. Everyone and their dog schedules their fishing trips around them, and it just adds to the pressure. I'll take an 'off' period with less pressure over an 'on' period with a lot of competition any day...

Cheers,

I think they are something definetly worth being aware of. Not the most major point to focus your fishing around, but it's good to be on the best spots during these times. Or where you've seen an interested fish, but they didn't bite.

I started looking at them last year, but to be honest, work, vacation time, family and household chores trump everyhing on the schedule for me.

There are guides that charge extra for "prime" days, so there is definitely a precieved benefit. I just get out whenever I can!
