Quick question. I am adding suspension to my 18' V-nose house. I am looking at 3,000# leaf springs. They sell single leaf or multi leaf springs. Is one better than another? Also what size square tubing do you stick the leaf spring into to bolt it? 2"X2" 1/8" thick?

I would use 3/16" thick or 1/4" tubing for the drop arms. We screwed-up on our first house by using 1/8" thick. The arms began to twist after a couple of years of traveling on rough roads and lakes. Just a suggestion. They didn't twist much, but it was enough to throw off the camber setting on the wheels.

DM,

Looking great! You've done a great job! I'm buying my frame this month and will get started too...maybe will post some pics and get info like you.

As far as the cabinets go, You should have enough room to put in a built-in jig box holder. There is a picture of what I'm talking about at:

http://www.sportsmanfishhouse.com/index_files/Page338.htm

That should still give you like 6.5-7 feet for your bed. Do that on the part facing out, and then you can build a simple cabinet that faces inside toward the bed. Are you doing a storage-type bunk on the bottom? You could do a box underneath and hinge the top with a removable cushion.

Good Luck!

DM, some questions as I'm getting everything ready to build on mine:

did you do osb or plywood roof?

did you do hurricane straps?

what kind of glue did you use on the membrane?

does your siding go directly on the studs?

does your furnace run on 110 or 12v?

thanks! can't wait to see the updated pics!

I went with osb on the roof- a little heavier but cheaper. I did not use any huricane strapping. The house is spray foamed which has glue in it and made everything rock solid. The glue for the roof can be purchased anywhere u get the rubber membrane. It is more expensive than the rubber. The siding is glued and screwed directly onto the studs. The furnace is a suburban 12 volt furnace. I got it off hsolist brand new for half price.

Ok, back to the top team!!.....

I've read the whole thread and I have two questions I don't believe yet answered ......

First, what kind of screws did you use to fasten your siding to the house??

And, has anyone got any experience with the pop up type tv antenna that you see on many wheel houses?? are they any good?

I've got one of those crank up antennas that came on my Lodge, but have not yet hooked a TV up to it. I'm also not sure if it is a digital antenna or if that even makes any difference.

All i know is that it cranks up from inside the house and i dont even have to go outside...that in itself is a cool idea.

They advertise it as digital and HD ready so who knows. Just curious to know if its better than the old antenna which were marginal depending on where you were etc.....

Thanks, hope it's good fo r you then we'll get one!!

One of the wineguard crank ups also came on my lodge. In St. Cloud area I pick up quite a few HD channels (about 10)with the 19" sharp tv and powered antennae. I will probably be replacing my crank up with a satellite dish, hopefully I make the switch to DirecTv before the first of the year.
