Best northern lake

No way any one give you the exact location. Welcome to FM and be prepared to get information overload from this site. But, GPS coordinates or honey holes are never given out. Most will let you know the lake and a general location, but that's it. You're on your own for the rest. I would recomend going to some get togethers, they help learn more about fishing and have had luck getting on fish.

If I ever tell you where the fish are biting...it is FAR away from where I am actually fishing. They may be biting there...but I am not fishing there.

I guess most fisherman are that way.

I remember as a kid my dad and I catching big crappies. After every five, he put them in bread sacks and in his snowmobile suit.

When we got our limit, we started to walk home. Only a few sunnies were in the pail we were caring. Before we got to shore, a snowmobile pulls up. It is the pastor from the church.

"Are they biting?"

"See for yourself," as my dad holds out the pail with the few sunnies.

A few words and laughs are exchanged before each goes on his way.

Half way home, my dad tells me that he did not lie to the pastor. He only let him draw his own conclusion. Then he tells me if he found out, the whole church would be on the lake next week!

Now Now, don't pick on the new guy. I would suggest looking a few local lakes in your area up on the MN DNR LakeFinder HSOforum. There are lake survey reports that can give you an idea of how many and what size of different kinds of fish are in a lake.

You might want to be a little more specific also...the metro area covers from Minnetonka to Lake Elmo and from Bald Eagle to Marion....lots of territory. Most metro lakes have a lot of northern, but size and quality might not be exactly what you want. but if you want tip ups, scrool thru the ice fishing or metro lakes threads and you can pick up lots of info. Some of these FMers give out lots of good information, just not exact locations on the lake.
