Girls, (or anyone) if you really hate to handle leaches, bring a small bucket of sand and drop them in before you try to hook them. They will be much easier to handle and won't seem quite as "ickey".

DeeDee...Running with scissors? Not a very good example for the kids!

OK I got rid of the scissors! frown If they are in dirt do they ust feel like worms?

Love the kitty! If mine looked like that I'd have to use them for bait. LOL.

Leaches in sand get the grains stuck on them so they are not so slimey and slippery, my mom taught me that one.

Thanks ladies...lures i can tie, minnows and leeches(learned a new way to hook them at the NorthwestSportsShow) are no problem, (worms i've never tried because my dad doesn't use them). No problem taking the fish off the hook..when I was young, a friend suggested I practice w/playtex living gloves... smile. The only thing I don't do at this point is clean them. Probably because I don't eat them... grin If I ever learn to eat them(and I keep trying), then I'll learn to clean them. For now? I can play catch/release all day and if anyone wants to eat them, they can clean them.

Regarding my boat, I think I can handle it in open water just haven't handled it around the dock. I've already been practicing the launching/landing.

I am going to try to make the Aug.16 date. Might even try the Annandale GTG on Jul.27

All,

My wife is Pauline and my name is Doug. We have three wonderful kids and our entire family loves to fish. We get out 3-5 times per week. We live in Maple Grove and are lucky to have really good fishing fairly close to home. My wife caught her biggest walleye not long ago...28 1/2 inches long! Hard to believe that she has only been fishing for a year and a half! I consider my wife my favorite fishing buddy. Most of my best fishing memories have been shared with her in our boat. August 2nd we get to fish our first tournament together on Clearwater lake. Can't wait! We have come a long ways from the days when all she would do is read her book while I fished. She now understands structure, baits her on hook, and has learned to take off all her own fish. If its windy she will even drop (and retrieve) the back anchor. While I miss doing these thing for her (Sometimes) I am really proud of her for stepping up and wanting to learn these things herself. I like the fact that I no longer have to call home and make up excuses why I'm gonna be late. Here are a few pictures.....

Thank you both for the warm welcome!

Ebiz,

Yes, I used to fish Long alot! I moved from New Brighton to Maple Grove. What was your buddies name that gave me that catfish? I think he had a crestliner. I remember many nights up in the creek chasing walleyes with you guys! Good times for sure!

Hi Doug,

You are very fortunate to have a life partner as well as a fishing partner. I am very envious of those who have the greatest yet the most simplistic things in life!

My best to you!

My name is Jari, my mom is from Finland and still a finnish citizen. My dad is first generation American and his parents were from Russia. Ladies love me, socialists fear me, and I like dogs better than people. I work in finance, and you probably don't want to hear from me when I'm at work. I like fishing, snowboarding, and ... well, thats about it, besides drinking the greatest Belgium/American beer ever, Budweiser.

I was born and raised in St. Paul, and still live there. I bought my first house in September of 07, and am steady fix'n it up. I make music under the name joeyquicksand, and i'm all over the net, so if you want to check it out, either go to www.myspace.com/jq, or www.soundclick.com/joeyquicksand

Hi,

Great forum! Nice to see other Women Anglers in this state!

My name is Heidi, 42 Married to John. I own a Fishing Tackle Buisness, my company (yes I run the business) manufacturers Big Lake Fishing Tackle (Salmon/Lake Trout). I live out in the country near Duluth, MN. We have several boats, the 2005 18' Lund Explorer is our Walleye boat, which I am very capabale of loading and unloading it (without my husband), if some women want to go fishing some time for Walleyes or Panfish. I am always willing to take other Women Walleye and Crappie fishing.

I saw your outing that you are doing in mid August, I would have joined in but I will be Fishing in Alaska on vaction, can't wait! Next years spring outing, Womens trip, I will gladly come along and will offer to use my Lund boat for a few women jump in. It would be fun!

Other then Fishing (which is my favorite outdoor activity) I also, Snowmobile, ATV ride, Camping, BWCA and Bird Hunting and have the machines, trailers and equipment to do so, if any women want to join in, let me know, I can be a good teacher too if you want to try it for the first time, like ATV riding, BWCA, etc.

We have no kids, so my schedule is usually pretty flexible, just 2 dogs, a big sweet Newfoundland and also a Yellow Lab for bird hunting (but she is getting old though, unfortunatly).

If anyone wants to reach me you can e-mail me at: [email protected]

My name is Jason in the interactive world. I run a press brake. That means I stick pieces of steel into a machine and step on a pedal and end up with bent pieces of steel. I have a wife and 2 little girls. My wife is not a fisherperson. I had her out in the boat last weekend, she turned green and didnt move for 2 hrs. I fish walleyes and perch in the summer, icefish for most anything, hunt pheasants, deer, turkeys and antelopes. Have a good one.

Reelemin,

That is great that you like to ATV ride also! Really fun in the fall time too, beautiful colors out. Have you ever been on some of the trails in northern MN, like around Silver Bay/Finland area, or north of Duluth on the Forest Service roads? Miles, and miles of trails. several are used in the winter for snowmobiling also.

P.S. I get not feeling sorry for the AK part. But I will post a few pics!

I hope you ladies "whack" the fish on yor outing and most of all have a great time, thats what it is all about!

Heidi
