Amsoil- 2 cycle oil

I know there was a post somewhere on this subject but I can't seem to find it. What Amsoil 2-cycle oil does a guy use for his ice auger and what mix ratio. I would like to try some that doesn't stink up the house so bad when drilling holes.

I think it's Amsoil Saber Pro. I tried to find some at Fleetfarm last weekend, but they didn't seem to have any in stock. They had a lot of Amsoil products, but no saber.

I ended up buying some generic synthetic oil and mixed it at 50:1 with fresh gas. It seemed to smoke a little more than the 24:1 Strikemaster mix, but the auger ran better too.

Thanks for all the good comments. I don't have to say very much about it any more, just check out everyone else's comments who have used it. (It will be a lot easier once the search feature here gets up and running again. I hope the updates to the forum software are all running soon.)

AMSOIL has 5 different 2-cycle oils. Yes, the one for the air-cooled, pre-mix engines is the Saber Professional.

On-Line direct order link: AMSOIL Saber Professional

The other problem is there are no where near enough places to buy it locally to everyone. I would appreciate help from you: e-mail me privately with where you would like to buy it (store or shop, address, contact person, phone number). Do not add it to this forum posting - not appropriate commercial. Please do not take these comments as commercialism, there have been a lot of threads with the same "I can't find where to buy it" in them.

I just bought my first gas ice auger. An Ardis Sweet Cut. I don't know much about gas ice augers yet, but i know in older car engines, running synthetic sometimes removes the dirt and grime that are actually holding gaskets together therefore making the engine leak oil. Do augers work the same way? It's hard enough finding a new blade for the Sweet Cut, I'd hate to ruin a gasket putting synthetic in. I'm not sure what it has been running, but i just bought generic 2 cycle oil from the gas station and mixed it 32:1. It didn't smoke, or even stink too bad but i hear pretty good things about the Amsoil. Any suggestions? Thanks guys.

After making about 15 phone calls and spending plenty of time on web searches, I finally found some Saber Pro oil in a store around here. It was at a small engine/power sports/lawn tractor/snowmobile/ATV place.

I was going to order a quart off the Amsoil web site, but when I saw that they want to charge almost $7 shipping on a $9 quart of oil, I put the kibosh on that.

The sad part is, I paid $3.95 each for two 8oz bottles (only size they had) in the store, which is only slightly less than the price I'd have paid per ounce on the Amsoil site with shipping included. crazy.gif Oh well, at least I don't have to wait for it to arrive.

I figure if I mix it 100:1 (which I'm frankly a little leery of doing and will probably run it 50:1 - 100:1 seems scary lean to me--never heard of any 2-cycle mix being that lean) 16oz of oil will last me about 4 years using it in my ice auger, weed whip and chain saw, or 2 years mixing it 50:1.

Overall, not a big expense, but next time I'll just order a quart off the Amsoil site and save myself the hassle. It sure would be nice if the stuff was more widely available in stores, though.

I just ordered a bunch of Saber from the Corporate HSOforum. I figure for how much time I could spend driving around trying to find this stuff that basically equals the price of shipping.

Had my order delivered in 3 business days. Plus, I got an Amsoil sticker!

FWIW, Little Bear Bait on 61 & 96 in White Bear has the bottles and the pillows. I am going to go the pillow route, as I just have my chainsaw, leafblower and auger that use mixed gas anymore.

    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
