The fever keeps getting worse for me.

I've said it many, many times but when that rod goes "twang" in the rod holder and the clicker starts zipping, my knees start to shake immediately.

First flathead I ever caught was with Fishhead, about a 15 pounder, and then I broke off on the 2nd and 3rd flatheads I ever set the hook into a couple nights later. That was the night I was nicknamed "Mr Breakoff" and it seriously took me 10 minutes to tie a new rig after that first lost fish. I was seriously shaking so bad I couldn't get my line through the hook eye.

Been hooked ever since. This will be summer #4 of fishing cats exclusively.

I got my dad hooked now as well, he is all over the Cat's Incredible tournament. Should be a lot of fun again this year!

Tyler-

Word on the street is we're going Cattin' on Saturday. Why don't you come on up?

Thanks a million for the eVite hanson, but I'm in Nebraska this weekend. I'll surely take you up on it another time. I also hope to be able to return the favor once I figure out Lake Zumbro.

cool.gif Check out this cool dude: Taylor with one catfish last summer [image]fish.jpg[/image]

Spent a few hours on the riverbanks and had a great time. Cats were going crazy!! [image]fish001.jpg[/image]

Might try flats next summer, just don't have enough time to get it all done. Lots of winter but this thinking about summer shortens it up. Brent

Darren, I heard there's around 5 inches in that spot. Remember that the ice around there is always questionable, so definitely be careful. Bring a spud bar. Put one or two fish back for me to catch...I might be over there on Sunday! smile.gif

Thanks for the offer dtro, Looking like a local fishing winter. guess I need to work more or get a higher paying job.

Heading to a local puddle in the AM. There are catfish caught there in the summer. No holes, only about 6 feet deep. Really hard to target any particular species, just get whatever bites. Cats, eyes, pike, crappie, sunnie, bullhead.... Looking forward to "CoolCats" this spring and of course the excursion!!

Question for you all.. How well do catfish fare on a low oxygen year? are they tough like a bullhead, or do they tip quickly?

Brent

at times we catch many pike and eyes!!]

Not so much like at cool cats! Anyone seen this fella lately???? [image]100_1635.jpg[/image]

Wish I knew. The big cats on the Red become very susceptible when the water temps are high in the summer. High water temps obviously equal low O2 levels.

I do think cats in general are more resilient than our other gamefish species so I would tend to believe they have a fighting chance in a winterkill type of year. Pure speculation on my part however.

Not since this spring. I'm sure you know Jonny is helping his dad out on URL now. Hope to run into him within the month however, or he might be trying to run into me with the plow truck! blush.gif
