Viper auto start?

Anybody have info on the Viper auto starters? Are they any good compared to the Astrostart? Thinking of one for the wife’s car?

I've had 2. 1st in a Suburban and the other in ford Van. The first one was a simple one way, the latest is a 2 way. It lets you know if the car started or not. I would recomend the 2 way. If you are in a place where you cant see the car, it is nice to know if it starts. The only thing I can think of that I dont like is, the 2 ways seem to be a little tougher on batteries. Other than that, no problems.

I will second everything boat fixer said, We have the viper 2 way in the wifes car and it works great but it is hard on batteries.I only have the one way in my truck and if you can't see it or hear it you don't know if it is running or not.

Viper has been in the business the longest. Back in the eighties when I was in college, I worked for a company that installed car audio and security. Back then the Viper was the top of the line in auto security and is still on top twenty some years later with their remote starts and security systems. You won't go wrong with Viper.

Viper or DEI is the biggest maker of starters, they own about 90% of the market.

I will put a shout out for Astrostart. Most car dealerships install these units, because manufactures are some what acceptant of Astrostart. If your car is under warranty, you may want to check with your local dealer, before you have a unit installed. I am sure they will be open on Monday and they can give you a card to give to your wife.

If I had a dollar for every time I (dealer) had to send a guy/gal back to Best Buy or other big box stores, to get a concern corrected because of a improperly installed remote start unit. I would have some bucks. As far as a Big Box store sending a car back to dealer was far and few between. Automotive dealers “try” to employ the best technicians for this kind of stuff. Think it comes down to how well the unit is installed, when it comes to having concerns in the future.

Also, if starter causes issue that in turn causes a Factory covered part to fail, the factory will not cover repairs of that part. I hope who ever installed the unit will cover repairs. If your local dealer installs unit or subs it out, it is kind of on their backs to get the car repaired for you at no charge. Most dealer installed units will have a warranty of 3/36,000 when installed new at time of delivery. After the fact, they will most likely cover unit and repairs for at least 12/12,000.

I have had many Viper Alarms over the years and can not remember a concern with them.

I have said this before and will say it again, installing a remote starter (way more so, with features) for a car/truck, is just like performing open hart surgery is to a human. Takes a good skilled person about the same time to do either of these tasks.

The radio station I deal with had it on an auction. One of the auctions where you trade your items for advertising. A dealer of the Viper will install it. They dropped the auction price but I’ll still have to purchase a module for the car. It’ll be the 2 way. The car is Chrysler 300 with all the bells and whistles. The only down side is the dealer is 50 miles north of us in TRF. I have the Astrostart in my pickup it has been bullet proof. Oops forgot the wife washed my jacket with the hand held in the jacket pocket

I used to have Viper Alarms installed in my cars, top of the line units too. I loved it when they worked. I think that it could've been installer lack of knowledge as there was car electrical problems showing up one or more years later. It has been so much trouble with electrical ever since then. Had to get the units removed. CC did very poor job. The worst part of it is,...,I use to work for them too. I can't say my experience at BB was any better but that was a radio install - different story.
