Trail Conditions in and around Detroit Lakes?

Does anyone know what the trail conditions are like around the Detroit Lakes area? I will be heading up there in a little over a week and hope the conditions will be good enough to ride. I know they got a lot of snow a while back but am sure that has been heavily ridden on. Any feedback would help. Thanks.

I just got done driving from Fargo to the Mahonmen casino. And we saw quite a few snowmobiles out on the HWY 10 ditches. Theres a trail that follows HWY 59 ditches, north out of Detroit Lakes, it was groomed. Everything I saw looked well groomed and smooth. There some grass showing on the trails in spots but thats about it. The trails looked good, not pounded out. Theres talking more snow up here later in the week too.

Through the end of last week, the trails were still in decent shape around here so far. Snow came early this year and caught many off guard. The numbers just aren't out there yet, as a lot of sleds are probably just now getting taken out of storage. Everyday though I've been seeing more and more sleds out. hopefully things should hold up through next weekend, as long as the groomers can stay on top of things. I don't know what the trails look like after this weekend though.

I put 247 miles on over the weekend. Trail south of DL (vergas trails) were not groomed as of last friday. Even if they groomed them after friday there is not enought snow to make it enjoyable.

North of DL. Rat lake, Yellow head in great shape but the lakes like Little Bemidji and elbow are horrible. Both have open water and alot of slush. there are signs posted with thin ice. Rock and rice lake seemed OK but still had some slush issues.

SouthWest of DL. Cormorant, Lake Park area seemed pretty good, but beaten due to a weekends worth of riders.

WildFan10m, I don't know of any rental outfits off hand. We only got between 0.5" to 1" of snow last night. I'm not sure if the drifting and blowing snow from the other day would have helped or hurt the trails any. I guess I'll find out tomorrow...

Thanks Deep Thinker. Glad to hear the trails are OK. I am coming up to DL tomorrow and will be riding Friday and Saturday. I am from the cities and we got 4" yesterday and it is still snowing! I like the snow here, but sleds are up north. Are they talking about any snow for Friday up there?

Trails were in pretty decent shape when I got out this morning. I only saw 4 other riders out all day. Beautiful weather for riding. It would have been nice to have a little more base in a few areas, but it wasn't too bad. By the end of the day some spots on the trails were getting worn though. We need a good couple of inches to dress things up around here. I was in Otter Tail County today.

Hint: If you're looking for a good place to ride with trails still in good shape, look for inconvenient places to get to or dead end trails that aren't connected with major systems.

Thanks Deadhead. It sounds like we will be able to get some decent riding in then over the weekend. I wish you guys got the snow we got here yesterday. We got 6" where I live. I will be riding Friday. Hopefully my father-in-law can find some places that haven't been ridden much. We generall go north from DL when we ride. A good couple of inches would really help I am sure. Will report after my outing. Shold be fun either way.

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
