Mr. Heater mod

I have the Mr. Heater that you have to light w/ a match. Tired of that. So, I bought one of those $2 lantern ignitors, broke out the Dremel & drill, made the ignitor fit. Works great, lights every time instantly. I will still bring matches along...just in case

If I'm looking at your dremel work correctly, you made three cuts that allow a metal 'flap' to bend inwards to which the igniter attaches? Where did you find the igniter?

This is great! I am so sick of burning my hands/gloves when the heater decides to poof-out.

I've seen the ignitors at Wal-Mart and Fleet Farm, right by the lanterns.

That a good idea. My neighbor did that with his latern. He even brought me the stuff to do mine but Im to lazy to take the time to do it.

Drill the hole 1st. Then three cuts w/ the Dremel for the flap. It's just like the way the thermcouple is mounted. I don't think the heat will bother the ignition source because this type is used in lanterns also. I had mine glowing orange for about 20 minutes, shut it off & cooled down, relit instantly.

I had considered using an ingintor off an old grill I had. But I couldn't find it & it would've taken alot more effort to rig it to work reliably. Anyone comes up w/ a good way to do this, please post some pics.

that is an excellent mod. I may have to do that for my buddies heater. I got a newer double one, that came with the ignitors.

After reading this post, I drove over to Walmart and picked up a couple ignitors. Put them in the match holes of my dual burner Mr.Heater. Works great, thanks for the idea!
