The pleasure is all here Ben. It was fun fishing altogether! I hope I didn't give you too much grief about your Marcum. ;\) Just don't take me too seriously. If you ever have any specific questions about fishing feel free to e-mail me and I'll help you out.

Good fishing with you and Cal,

Corey Bechtold

We have the Baby FMer Get together coming up next weekend, but with the nice weather today, my dad and uncle called me asking if I wanted to go out fishing with them and my sister and cousin. I figured why not and brought the little guy out to try to ice a few for the very first time and get a little practice for next weekend. He had a blast, we were out for 2 hours, and he got his very first fish. I can't wait for next weekend. There will be a lot more pics of kids with their first fish to post come next Saturday evening. My dad was screaming like a school girl when I was helping Hunter get the fish out of the hole. I have never seen a 50 year old man run so fast on glare ice.

Here is the pic.

He was so happy he started drooling with delight. I tried to release the fish, but he threw a fit. So I decided to keep it because I have a buddy who is a taxidermist part time and he said he could mount it for me for free. So I brought it home in the back of the vexilar genz box and rinsing it in the sink, the little sucker came back to life. So right now, it is swimming in the kitchen sink and I might try to find a tank for it if it makes it through the night. I figure if the fish has the will to live 8 hours out of the water, I will give it a second chance. And yes, I do plan to instill the practice of catch and release, but with how happy he was with that first fish, I couldn't see it in my heart to make him mad. Don't want to turn him off of fishing on the first time out.

Edit: After an evening of revival efforts, the little crappie just wasn't going to make it. I thought it was some sort of miracle for the fish to still swim after 8 hours in the first place. So I wrapped him up in a towel and will deliver him to my buddy for the mount when he does his next set of fish. I gave it a shot anyway though.

Here is a link to the Baby FMer Get Together information.

You guys don't even know how hard I tried to get him to lip it, but I think the pic I got turned out plenty good anyway. This morning it was still kicking, but not gonna make it and he started making noises like he was yesterday after he caught it when he saw it kicking around in the sink.

I will remember that for the rest of my life. Nothing like seeing the excitement on a kids face with a fish on their line.

I have a picture of Cole holding a Sunfish when he was very little. I think he was under 2 years old. He was concentrating so hard with the pacifier in his mouth.

I'll have to find that picture and get it scanned so I can show you. It was pretty funny and definately something I'll alway's remember.

Good luck,

Corey Bechtold
