I set a big goal this year to fish walleyes hard this fall. I catfish all summer, duck hunt in the fall, and then eagerly await ice to kick off the ice fishing season. Realizing that I've been missing out on the best time of the year to walleye fish, I decided to make it a priority.

The majority of my effort has been concentrated on night trolling crankbaits. In the last few months, I've trolled on Cass Lake, Lake Mille Lacs, and Lake Minnetonka. Cass and Mille Lacs were both productive yielding some nice walleyes in the 22-26" range. Nice fish but not what I was after.

Finally... without much open water time left, I connected with a beauty on the Minnesota River tonight. Technique was classic walleye fishing, a jig & minnow combo worked slowly along a current seam. Water temp was 32 degrees. Ice chunks/sheets were floating by. Wind was howling near 30mph. Minnow bucket was icing over. It was brutally cold out. And to top it off, I slipped and fell on the boat ramp and hit the ground real hard. Ouch!

The result was this hog of a 28" Walleye pushing the scale to 9 1/2 lbs.

Do I ever love my Limit Creek rod for this type of fishing! This big girl really put up a great fight but the Limit Creek brought her to the boat!

Nice, nice fish! smile.gif I too, decided to look for that trophy this fall, I took vacation during the second week of November, but didn't find mine on the sippi until about a week ago. Pic is still in the camera. 27.5". Love those big fat fall river eyes!

Oh no... she was a pretty darn good fight. My biggest concern was pulling the hook loose so I let her run around quite a bit. I had another fish pop off within seconds of setting the hook and missed a couple other good bites as well. They were biting really light and getting good hooksets was troublesome. Alot of the time, they would pick the bait up and you had no idea until you went to jig again and a fish was there, which would result in poor hooksets. I really thought I could lose that fish at any minute and thats what really made it interesting. grin.gif

      got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out

      Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!

      we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
