DonBo
Another season is nearing the end. I may have hunted my last day for this year. I have deer from 3 states in my freezer, as many as my family will eat. There are several turkey, pheasant and grouse keeping them company. It's been another long run, starting with the early archery season in September and coming to a close just this last Monday morning as I put the scope on a fat Wisconsin doe. During this time, I have been gone every single weekend, most of those have been 3 and 4 day stays. Two full weeks in South Dakota and Montana were thrown in for good measure. The thought that it's over is not real troubling. My shop needs some full time attention, as does my wife. She has been great about all the time spent in the woods and field, but she may tire of me before fishing and turkey seasons begin in the spring.Yes, it's been a good season...again. Better than some, not as good as others. Some true once in a lifetime experiences, some best forgotten, but always memorable.Hope all of you have had similar seasons to look back on and be truely thankfull for. Coach1310
I with ya on the end of another season. I got started Rifle hunting when I was young and that will always hold a special place in my heart. The traditions of the camp and the company of guys you only spend a few days a year with are special. As the sun sets the last day I always experience a bid of sadness that it has come and gone already, but then try to focus on the great experience it was. Like you said, better than some, not as good as others, but a great season none the less. The sun may have set on this years season, but it won't be long and it will be back. Time to get the gear ready for ice, spend some quality time with the family and get the honey-do list done.
bigbucks
Quote: and get the honey-do list done. No offense man, but what kind of a dream world are you living in? You know honey-do lists don't really end...Season IS winding down & certainly my outings will be fewer & farther between, as well as shorter, but there's likely to be a good hunt or two of some kind left. Time to get in a pheasant hunt or two, or take the kids out for a short stroll after a squirrel or two or maybe a rabbit. Still debating if I'm going to bowhunt for a while tomorrow morning. Plenty of places close enough since I only have to go 10 miles for Thanksgiving. It does seem odd though, many, many years I would go ice fishing Thanksgiving morning. It's been quite a while since that's happened.
Grant Pearson
Quote:and get the honey-do list done. I haven't hit 25 yet and already know the honey do list doesn't end!!! Now that The Future Hunter is here, my honey-do list has over doubled!!! My hunting season is over for the year. In all honesty though, I totally forget about hunting when I have him in my arms. bigbucks
Cut a little wood, moved a portable, trimmed out & repaired a little used stand, bow hunted once & ML hunted twice. Went for a one hour small game hunt with my brother-in-law, shot a rabbit. All in all a good weekend. Saw deer two out of the three hunts. Debated on shooting a fawn at 10 yards Saturday morning, but my brain was in reverse, as I checked twice before attempting to fire to verify the safety was ON! The fawn finally decided after the second click of the hammer dropping, most of the way, that it should leave. I decided the Lord was maybe telling me not to shoot the fawn. Nothing wrong with the gun, just the hunter. It vacated along with a second deer I hadn't seen, which I'm pretty sure was another fawn. Embarrassing, but am glad it wasn't a nice deer, must be slipping in my advancing age...
