Anyone try this type of fan?

Just wondering if anyone tried this type of fan and if it would work well enough?

How about a computer-style 5 inch square fan. Looks like the kind that can do in your computer?

Found one for $7 plus shipping.

It is a 12 volt DC runs at 2000 rpm has a small rwaw -- .15 amps.

I run my LED lights and hopefully this fan off of a vexilar battery?

Any thoughts?

thanks

Hit.

I picked up a fan I'm going to try in the house from Wal-Mart. It has a 5" fan, built in rechargable batteries, also takes 4 C batteries, has a charger/ac adapter, variable speed and is computer controlled to save energy. They were on clearance for $5.

I've been really impressed with it so far just using it around the house.

Dahitman,

I am heading up to Milaca Unclaimed right now. They used to have a box full of these computer fans for very cheap. I think they were used, but it beats $20.00 plus at radio shack. I wonder if they are 12v? Also Milaca had some great little car audio ant. that will tuck in nice in otter for car radio/cd player.

Good luck!

Yep that is what I use also, in fact I have one that I have a card board tube on that takes the hot air from the top of the house and blows it back down to the floor. Most computer fans are 12 volt. But they will run at a lower voltage. Some of the little ones that are 1 to 1.5 inch are only 5 volts but the bigger ones that a person uses for what we use them for are all 12 volt. They run good even at 5-7 volts.

Okay I have rambled long enough.

I have two 3" computer fans in my wheel house and they are great. Very quiet and low current draw. I had a 12V fan that I bought at wally world and it blew too much air and created a chilly breeze. It was also too noisy even set on low speed.

One thing I might do is hook up my new LED lights (besthonLED) and have some attachements for a computer fan to a seperate vex battery. They are cheap and light and easy to change and take up little to no room. Then always have plenty for locator, and possibly a spare if needed.

Actually, I have a couple old computers that I will take the fans out of smile.gif Good ideas guys!

BoxMN,

Best Hongkong, how did go when ordering threw them. Did you use a credit card or pay pal. I want to order, but get a little skittish when ordering over seas.

I did not make it up to Unclaimed yet (going that way in next 1/2 hour), but I went down to Canvas Crafts and Sportsman warehouse (and a couple pawn shops) instead. I was right next to a Northern tool when I was just in Rogers. Darn. I think the unclaimed fans where under $4.00 and if I can remember they are in same boxes and style as the ones at Northern. Thanks for the Northern tip though.

Dahitman44, it looks like you've got plenty of recommendations, but just in case you need another, try an NMB DC Axial fan from Digi-Key. We use a lot of them to cool home theater equipment cabinets and they work great. There's an endless selection of sizes and speeds and they're pretty tolerant to adjusting the speed by varying the DC voltage. Plus, Digi-Key is great Minnesota company located in Thief River Falls.

Thanks Sutty and Harvey Lee,

I checked this afternoon and I still have a little over a $100.00 in my pay pal account.

I am going to place an order.

Thanks!

I gave the good old U.S. of A. a good run this afternoon and yesterday, but could not find what I wanted. I guess I will have to go over seas. confused.gifwink.gif

Sorry for delay Shack, but I see others have answered the same way I would - CC via PayPal. Took about 2 weeks, it came in a flimsy envelope. One oy my three had 5 LEDs out, and they said they would give me deal on my next order. I haven't ordered again, but will when I find the next spot for one smile.gif

    • Truly sorry to hear that duffman! I know that feeling.  Keep the good memories
    • Chamois passed away this weekend a couple days short of her 13th bday. What a great dog to hang out with here at home and on distant adventures. Gonna miss ya big time my little big girl.
    • Sounds pretty sweet, alright. I will check them out, thanks.
    • If you really want to treat your wife (and yourself) with a remote operated trolling motor, the Minn Kota Ulterra is about easy as it gets.  Auto stow and deploy is pretty awesome.  You just have to turn the motor on when you go out and that the last time you have to touch it.   24V 80lb.  60 inch shaft is probably the right length for your boat.  They ain’t cheap - about $3k - but neither one of you would have to leave your seat to use it all day.
    • Wanderer, thanks for your reply. I do intend for it to be 24 volt, with a thrust of 70-80. Spot lock is a must (my wife is looking forward to not being the anchor person any more).  With my old boat we did quite a lot of pulling shad raps and hot n tots, using the trolling motor. Unlikely that we will fish in whitecaps, did plenty of that when I was younger. I also need a wireless remote, not going back to a foot pedal. We do a fair amount of bobber fishing. I don't think I will bother with a depth finder on the trolling motor. I am leaning toward moving my Garmin depth finder from my old boat to the new one, just because I am so used to it and it works well for me. I am 70 years old and kinda set in my ways...
    • Dang, new content and now answers.   First, congrats on the new boat!   My recommendation is to get the most thrust you can in 24V, assuming a boat that size isn’t running 36V.  80 might be tops?  I’m partial to MinnKota.     How do you plan to use the trolling motor is an important question too.     All weather or just nice weather?   Casting a lot or bait dragging?   Bobber or panfish fishing?   Spot lock?  Networked with depth finders?  What brand of depth finders?
    • We have bought a new boat, which we will be picking up this spring. It is an Alumacraft Competitor 165 sport with a 90 horse Yamaha motor. I will be buying and installing a trolling motor,  wondering if I can get some recommendations on what pound thrust I will want for this boat?  Also, I will be selling my old boat, is there a good way to determine the value on an older boat ( mid-80's with a 75 horse 2-stroke  Mariner motor)  I will appreciate any help with these questions.
