Fishhouse Lighting Questions.

Heater1

Recommended Posts

I have searched thru all the lighting stuff here and want to order the Led Lights from besthonLED, but i have a question. I have a Northland Fish house wich is 6x8 and am wondering wich Led's and how many sets you guys would go with? I tend to go overboard sometimes with things LOL and dont want to go overboard with the lighting. We do most of our fishing from dawn to dusk but occaisonally will do some slab fishing on URL or push for that last walleye on LOW as the sun sets. Also any other mods or ideas for the house would be awesome. Got it new last year and it is a nice House just looking for ways to improve it.

Heater, I have the BestHonLED LEDs in my portable. I have 2 48 LED strips, but one is enough almost always. I don't have a perm house so this is purely my gut feeling---I think 4 strips would be enough for you. I'm sure some of the other fellows that have experience with these lights in a perm can give you a more definitive answer.

After using these lights in my portable I would also agree that 4 would be plenty. The only other question I have is how much light are you looking for? Enough to make it bright as day or to be able to read?

If you just need enough to fish for a few hours past sunset and nothing else then 4 should do you fine. That should be plenty to tie jigs and gaff a fish if needed.

I am running wires! I hate buying batteries! To me when I have a marine battery in storage in Otter, why have to stop at gas staion on the way out to pick up a double pack of AA.

I am going to run (fish tape) wires up conduit polls. I have always wanted to do this. If figure drill a little hole and apply a little rubber gromet and I would like to hot glue or wire tie L.E.D.'s to conduit support rods. This will help to keep them on all the time. add in a switch and bang. Fish on!

Add in a couple of Rusty's 1157's and you are mobile with all the light you need. cool.gif

I have given very good thought to this light before. Not for the fish house, but the shop. I have seen it in action and would be a good back up tool..

I love the fact of hook up deep cell and with L.E.D.'s, fishing all night with out any concerns.

I have some extra robo duck batteries laying around, not sure what voltage they are but would they work for powering up the led lights and a small fan? Otherwise i could use my fl20 battery. Thanks guys for all the info. Cant wait to be back on the ice again.

I have a fishtrap guide and I have 2-13 LED lights I picked up at Checker. They are like driving lights, but for asthetic purposes I would guess. Anyhow, I point them down at the holes and they work great. I also have a headlamp I use for set-up and tear down.

He mentioned that he has "some", as in more than one. So, he could hook them up in series and get the 12 volts he needs.

Heater1, I'm originally from Grand Forks, if you don't mind me asking, what's your last name?

Broman, My Last Name Is Rosenau, been in Grand Forks for 15 years. As far as the battery deal i think a buddy of mine has a extra vex battery he doesnt use so that should work out just fine. Its getting close now with these temps!!!!!

Has anyone compared the BHK lights to the First Ice lights that Gander Mountain had last year? I think GM has those same lights under their own label this year.I bought several of the First Ice lights last year, so I am not looking for new ones, just curious how the two compare to each other

just lookng at BesthonLED's
HSOforum
and have most of you ordered the blue lights or the white lights?? and another question i know most people have the flip over style houses, how do you think wiring would work in a suitcase style house??

I use the white lights in two different portable houses. They should work fine in a suitcase style. I use to have a mankato style suitcase and the lights worked in there.

You will just need to find a way to hang them if your poles are on the outside.

Jiggin-

I have a Clam 5600, and am gonna put 2 of these below in it. I bought some Clam spreader pole clips and am going to run 2 pieces of conduit between the 2 spreaders and mount these on wood at the ends. I paid $9.99 each on hsolist for them, and it looks like daylight in my Clam with them on. Will post more pics this weekend after conduits all rigged up.

one of the units, turned off:

At fleet farm they have those 12 volt lights that are cased in clear plastic and i bought 2 of them that I wired together and put a clip to connect them with the bars that gives more then enough light then u'll ever need. And on one battery i have had my lights run for 8 hours straight. and it only costs about 15 bucks for the whole setup. I have a clam 6800 that it lights.

    • Truly sorry to hear that duffman! I know that feeling.  Keep the good memories
    • Chamois passed away this weekend a couple days short of her 13th bday. What a great dog to hang out with here at home and on distant adventures. Gonna miss ya big time my little big girl.
    • Sounds pretty sweet, alright. I will check them out, thanks.
    • If you really want to treat your wife (and yourself) with a remote operated trolling motor, the Minn Kota Ulterra is about easy as it gets.  Auto stow and deploy is pretty awesome.  You just have to turn the motor on when you go out and that the last time you have to touch it.   24V 80lb.  60 inch shaft is probably the right length for your boat.  They ain’t cheap - about $3k - but neither one of you would have to leave your seat to use it all day.
    • Wanderer, thanks for your reply. I do intend for it to be 24 volt, with a thrust of 70-80. Spot lock is a must (my wife is looking forward to not being the anchor person any more).  With my old boat we did quite a lot of pulling shad raps and hot n tots, using the trolling motor. Unlikely that we will fish in whitecaps, did plenty of that when I was younger. I also need a wireless remote, not going back to a foot pedal. We do a fair amount of bobber fishing. I don't think I will bother with a depth finder on the trolling motor. I am leaning toward moving my Garmin depth finder from my old boat to the new one, just because I am so used to it and it works well for me. I am 70 years old and kinda set in my ways...
    • Dang, new content and now answers.   First, congrats on the new boat!   My recommendation is to get the most thrust you can in 24V, assuming a boat that size isn’t running 36V.  80 might be tops?  I’m partial to MinnKota.     How do you plan to use the trolling motor is an important question too.     All weather or just nice weather?   Casting a lot or bait dragging?   Bobber or panfish fishing?   Spot lock?  Networked with depth finders?  What brand of depth finders?
    • We have bought a new boat, which we will be picking up this spring. It is an Alumacraft Competitor 165 sport with a 90 horse Yamaha motor. I will be buying and installing a trolling motor,  wondering if I can get some recommendations on what pound thrust I will want for this boat?  Also, I will be selling my old boat, is there a good way to determine the value on an older boat ( mid-80's with a 75 horse 2-stroke  Mariner motor)  I will appreciate any help with these questions.
