heiman507
Does anybody know what the regulations are for having game feeders in Minnesota? The reason I ask, a neighbor of our hunting property has purchased a feeder last year and has placed it out on an island a few houndred yards south of our property line. He has it running all year round, even during the deer season and claimed he was going through a few hundred pounds each week the last month. He has shot his few deer for the year near the feeder. The biggest frustion is that the deer population on our property seems to be the lowest we have had. I am just wondering what the regulations are, since it was the topic of the weekend at the cabin. Shack
What your neighbor is doing is illegal. I would warn him about what he is doing is illegal and read the baiting section in the regs. The DNR are flying over looking for this kind of thing and I am sure it is not a cheap thing to get out of. It is legal in Wis. to bait for deer. Sandmannd
From what I know, it's illegal here but not in WI. I would let him know it's illegal. If he does it next year, turn him in.
Shack
Here are the bait reg.'s from page 72 from the DNR hunting and trapping regulation hand book. Shack
4wandering, I did not know that. So only from piles and no mechanical feeders.
Scott K
In Wisconsin. Correct, no mechanical feeders. ANd there is an amount restriction also, I believe 2 gallons per 40 acres, no closer then 100yds. As for this guy with a feeder, and hunting over it in MN, very ilegal, if your friends warn him, if not call him in!
SDbowhunter
I would let him know that it is illegal. I personally wouldnt turn him in without a warning if I'd turn him at all. Maybe say you "know someone who was talking about turning him in" and wanted give him a chance to correct the situation. There is no point straining neighbor relationships expecially over hunting cause there is allways a possiblity for them to make it worse for you. slick814
let him know that's it's illegal as politely as you can. if he blows you off, then turn him in next year. Maybe just give an anonymous call to a local CO that it's being done and leave it at that. Let the CO handle it.
Powerstroke
I would just make a call to TIP or thew local CO. You can be anonymous. What your neighbor is doing is very illegal and is obviously doing everything they are worried about. It is affecting the local population of deer and their patterns. Your neighbor is also using an unethical way of harvesting deer. Let the CO decide if he should get a warning.
