County Fee land?

HUnting in northern Lake COunty, I've used a plat book to determine land ownership. There is a nice piece of land, but the plat book says "County Fee" land - is this open to hunting? Surrounding pieces are "Tax Forfeit", this is the only so marked as County Fee - can I access this parcel without written permission?

Apparently this is a tough question. Try www.lakecounty.gov. Scroll down to the MN one and you'll find land parcel info. If that doesn't tell you what you need to know, contact them.

First of all a plat book is only as good as the info the day it was printed. Land could change hands the next day and you wouldn't know it. Sounds like you've done some work to spot the piece in question. Best move is to go to the County Courthouse and work with the people in the land records office. They can find the spot, check for up to the minute ownership information, and help you get an understanding what the terms mean.

The next issue is your access issue, and the status of the land you have to cross to get to the parcel in question. Same solution should apply.

Finally, look at pages 12 and 13 of the hunting regs for the law about tresspass. In extremely simple terms it appears that unless forest land is posted you can hunt it. There's someeting in the law about some trees that get cut every 15 years and I don't know what that means. Most likely not an issue in many places in the state.

Generally the part about trees that get cut every 15 years would be applying to hybrid poplar fields. They look like woods, but basically are agriculture.
