Weed Shark
Gut piles can disappear in a hurry. I don't own a trailcam, but I'd be interested in setting one up over a pile and seeing what shows up. Anybody ever try this?
Mark Christianson
Yep.In a week I had fox, coyote, skunks, crows, turkey vultures...a guy on an ATV... I think that was it.
Steve Foss
Wouldn't surprise me to catch some deer, either. They've been known to walk up and sniff fresh gut piles, even with human odor all over the place, and more than one hunter has filled his or her second tag with a deer that came in and took a sniff at the gut pile of the hunter's first deer — and sometimes within just a few hours. Grant Pearson
one thing that I've done is if the rut is close, or happening, I'll shoot a doe right away (pending more than one tag) and after gutting her and cleaning her out, I'll rupture her bladder and hunt near the pile. I shot my biggest buck (9 pointer) as he was sniffing the air and walking towards to gut pile. I was curious the as to what might happen the first time I did that. BLACKJACK
I just set out one of my cameras yesterday over a gut pile. Last year I drug home a roadkill deer and dumped it in front of my camera. Its interesting to see what you get - coyotes, cats, crows, big hawks, the neighbors dog - you almost have to chain it down, they keep wanting to drag it away!!! Weed Shark
Last year I listened to timberwolves howling at the end of shooting hours. It would be cool to get some images of wolves.
