American Widgeons

A buddy of mine took me out to some of his migrating duck holding area's and we were able to get a few Widgeon and Bufflehead ducks today. We also saw Pintails, Ringnecks and Goldeneye. It was nice to still have some fall colors in the area's we were taking pictures.

And the bonus was an eight point basket rack buck.

Nice, Mike. Iike No. 2 and No. 4 the best because of the way the green in the duck's head is echoed by the same greens in the environment.

#1 for me Mike, that buck is a bit smaller than the one I passed on this weekend.

I like #4. I've hunted ducks for a long time, and have shot a few widgeons, but none that looked as colorful as these.

Great looking birds Mike and a very rare buck Sorry I've been hunting the critters and they are a getting scarce unless you are driving at night.

Nice shots Mike. I need to get down your way some time and look for some of the waterfowl that are a little more scarce up here. I rarely see a widgeon or pintail up this way.

Thanks Dietz and Jim! Mike, we talked about this in the past and you just let me know when you can get away or plan on coming down to the cities and we can make the rounds. I don't normally see Widgeons here too often, it's in the spring and the fall that I target migrating species coming through and staying around for short periods of time. I have a few locations that are generally pretty decent.

One more with a yellow reflection hitting the water... can you tell I moved around so that I could get a variety of colors in the water?

All great photos of a very cooperative duck! Each color in the water does set off a different mood. Still like #4 the best.
