Extended Warrenty For a 2001 Duramax

Just reached 100.00, and have been looking at extended coverage for this truck. Does anyone have any recommendations at which company to go with?, or ones to stay away from?.

Just be sure to get a full copy of the coverage BEFORE you buy it. It's the law that you are entitled to that document before the purchase.

Read it thoroughly be sure you understand what is and what is not covered, deductibles, customer's responsibilities, where/how repairs are handled and how claims are handled, etc.

They all sound really good until you start reading the fine print, so to speak.

Yes, read very well ALL the contact and have explained what it doesn't cover, you will be amazed of what will be excluded.

Example: LLYs were famous for overheating, will warranty cover it or will it be owners responsibility ? Transmission snaps shafts while towing a trailer even within max towing capacity, will it cover it ?

I am not a fan of extended warranties, not to bash but if it was a Cummins I would say don't do it, since I owned 4 of them with over 200,000 miles, I know how they can alst

Duramax are excellent motors, I just don't know many with high mileage yet, but usually a diesel engine will outlast a gasoline by a long shot.

Again be sure somebody explains VERY WELL any question you have with it.

If you would have bought it before your factory expired it would have saved you a ton of money. To get one now will cost alot. What I would do is talk to a gm diesel tech and ask him comon failures at your milage and above, then when you go into buy the ext war. you can compare what is covered. Some ext war companies get a list like this and not cover them items. Another thing is make sure you have all records of maint. if you havent done your scheduled maint. the ext war company may not cover the items they say they will. Ask about that ahead of time. Also some companies if you never use them, they will refund a portion of your money. Good luck!

I believe you will find, as has been discussed on this Forum in the past, that consumer protection advocates generally regard these "contract"s as being little short of a con game. Do not waste your money. If we had effective regulatory action going on from Washington a great many things like this would simply go away. Like the headache cure that you rub on your forehead......gimme a break. It has been PROVEN that this product simply does not work....but has it been banned? nope, not in todays world.

Stay away from X warranties....very very few people ever gain any satisfaction from them and even then it usually takes them a long, wearing battle of letters, emais and telephone calls to extract a dime or two.

Don't waste the money. I have a 2002 D Max they are a LB7 Durmax and that is what you have in your 2001. The week point of this motor has been the injectors. GM has a special buelltin that covers the injectors to 200K. You will probably need this. I bought mine at 75K and the injectors had been replaced at 70K. Then at 155K 3 injectors went out again. Well my dealer had to take it to the regional service manager to get it approved to fix again since it had already been done once on my truck. Well thankfully GM covered all eight again so I have new injectors once again. I did tear a transfer case out but other than that I have had pretty good luck. But those were two pretty big things.
