Dogs for Pheasant Opener

There was a post about which dogs would be out duck hunting so I thought I would start a post about dogs going for pheasant opener.

I have a chocolate lab that is almost 2. It will be her second year. Last year we hunted 3 or 4 times a week in ND so I am hoping that experience carries over to opener this year.

Here is my favorite pic from last year:

Nice pic. My Golden is a great pheasant dog as well. I used to love my dad's pointers but I love the way my Golden goes in after them! There is much to be said for a good flushing dog. I would die for a picture like that of her. I am sure your dog will only get better. It is amazing at what they will learn. My Golden is now six. Compared to her first couple years she sure has things figured out. If you liked what your dog did last year you have things coming!

kinda off topic but is it alright to hunt a lab thats being trained to retieve and also work it on pheasants? He's already somewhat trained to "hunt" for blind retrieves, but he's not trained to quarter. Just wondering if its gonna hamper with retrieving training.

My dog will be 2.5 and will be out again this year. This will be his second season and the light has really come on in his head what it's all about. Starting out next weekend near Wilmar for 3 days and then heading to North Dakota the following weekend for 4 days. I can't wait!

I hope to be out this Sat morning. We are expecting our second child any day now so I will have to wait and see what happens. My dog will most likely be out with or without me as my hunting buddies REALLY like to hunt with her. This will be her 5th season and she knows the game well HEre is from S. Dak last year.

This will be my Wirehaired Pointing Griffon's third season for pheasants. He really showed good progress last fall. Here is my favorite photo that I have of him so far. This was his first season at 10 months old. North Dakota limited.
