Daylight savings time

Recommended Posts

As I understand it Daylight savings time has been moved this year to the 1st weekend in November better known as opening of deer firearms season.

A couple in our group had a light discussion about this. First we thought it was going to be a huge pain. But, after careful deliberation, we decided that daylight savings time could start for us when we leave camp.

Consider:

*You would start an hour (clock time) later than usual, no more super early wake up calls.

*You would hunt an hour later in the afternoon, which should only goof up supper time.

*Guys who work Friday and drive up that evening won't get there so late.

*You can play cards later into the night.

Since we rarely leave camp I think this should work to leave the clocks alone until we head home.

Am I thinking backwards here?

Remember Daylight savings time starts on SUNDAY, Nov. 4. It shouldn't affect anything you do Fri or Sat. You still have the same number of hours in a day.

What I do when daylight savings time comes is I don't worry about it on Sat, leave your alarm clock set for the normal early morning hunting time, then at about midday Sunday I reset the time on my clocks. Pretty painless.

Thank you Blackjack you are right about Friday night, other than they get an extra hour of daylight to drive in than other years.

Saturday morning would be different than other years though as you would be out in the stands an hour later than normal. If you change your clocks back Saturday night, it would go back to getting up early like past years. That's why we won't change. Just kidding ourselves for a few days, that's all.

Friday Nov 2 sunrise=7:53AM Sunset=6:02PM

Sat Nov 3 sunrise=7:54Am sunset=6:00PM

Sun Nov 4 sunrise=6:55AM sunset=4:58PM

I don't know about you but I'm not sleeping in an hour on Sat morning, I'll be out the same time as I am Friday morning for bowhunting.

Hi Guys,

I don't know about all of you, but to be a bit blunt, this whole thing sounds kind of silly. All that is happening to you is by turning your clock back one hour before bed on Saturday evening means you are "technically" going to bed an hour earlier and waking up an hour earlier. Your sleep does not change unless you allow it to by staying up that extra hour because of the time change. The sun does not come up an hour earlier...it's pretty much stayed on it's same pattern for what...over a few Billion years or so...

set your clock accordingly, and hunt normally. No change in how one will sleeep at all...the only thing that changes is the clock for that first weekend.

After that, things have to adjust somewhat due to work schedule, etc, which can force one to have an hour change in their sleeping habits...

quit over-thinking too much and enjoy a great weekend in the woods smile.gif

I say leave your clock on Sunday until you're done hunting for the day. Change your watch or something so you'll still get the sunrise time right, but it's no use changing your alarm clock and risking moving the time back but forgetting to change the alarm. That and you'll wake up the same time you did the previous morning. Shouldn't be a big deal, the sunrises at the same "time".

Throw the clocks away. You're out there to enjoy hunting not watch a clock. Get in stand at daybreak and leave the woods at sunset. I never take a watch with me unless I promise someone I'll be somewhere at a certain time. Isn't that partly why we do this?

Holy Smokes Boys, I didn't mean to start a revolution!

Just kidding. I forgot to mention in the original post that I get up that early for about the 5 days a year I go hunting. Other than that I am a late sleeper. Hence my confused mental state.

Thanks for the replies, it's always good to start a thread that gets good answers and opinions.

Have a good and safe hunting season.
