Ice Grippers - they're the real deal!!

BLACKJACK

Recommended Posts

Bought the Ice Grippers advertised on this site and they work great!! With the warm weather, the ice is getting slippery with the surface melt, put on my new grippers and I walked right along. Looks like they're well made too, they should last many, many years and the atachment straps were easy to use and held them on my boots tight. Granted, they're spendy, but I've tried some of the other kinds that atttach under your boot (uncomfortable) or some with the chains/rubber (they don't grip worth a darn on smooth, wet ice) - these grips are great and make the others look like junk! And the best part is they work! If I don't lose them, they should be the last pair that I ever own.

BLACKJACK,
I'm glad you posted this. I've been trying to tell folks for a long time that this is the absolute best set of Ice grippers available.

We always hear from those who haven't used these how good other grippers are. Fact is, I've tried them all and none compare. They either wear out to soon, have slippage and a host of other problems. If it has rubber or plastic, it's junk, no matter how good they work at first.

The Ice Grips are industrial grade ice grips originaly made for loggers who need to use them everyday along the icy rivers. They are built to last for many years, lightweight, and easy to put on and take off. They feel just like part of your boot....only they don't let you slide on the ice.

Am I right BLACKJACK????

I used to be one of those guys who said my ice cleats work just fine.I now have a pair of Ice Grippers and will never go back. These have cleats on the front and back of the boot so you cannot slip. They strap on easily and I am impressed with how well they stay on the boot.Others I have tried slip around on the boot and feel awkward.I even forget I am wearing my Ice Grippers.

Hey Paul, that's happened to me a couple of times as well.

When you're on ice you feel like you're walking very solidly (especially if you're pulling a portable-these are a must have).

Absolutely no slippage and they're so light you feel like you're not wearing anything on your boots, the Ice grips are that snug.

The Ice Grippers will fit over almost any boots.

Check the NEW Sizing chart in the link above to see which size you want.

Hi folks,
I manufacture the ice creepers that you have been discussing on this forum. It's great to hear the fact that you like the way they perform. It just proves that sometimes an old original design can withstand the test of time and outperform the new, "cheaper", and supposedly better versions. I have a copy of the original blueprints and tooling for my creepers that date to the 1890s. They were made in Hudson, NY by the Gifford-Wood CO. They were the premier ice equipment manufacturer of their time.
I have been making the creepers since 1988. I have designed and implemented many improvements over the original creepers. Those of you who have purchases them from Fishing Minnesota have bought the very best product that I have been able to produce--until now. In the next couple of days you will find a new sizing chart listed on Rick's product page for my creepers. You will find a size to fit ANY size boot you have. And if you don't, just contact me through Rick with the two measurements that you'll find on the product page and I'll custom make them for you (at a slight price premium).
There are two additional things you all nees to know.
1. I want to bring you the best product that I possibly can, so I welcome your comments, both positive and negative. I will enjoy the positive and correct the negative.
2. Fishing Minnesota has an internet exclusive to sell my ICE GRIPPERS

I have to agree, Ice Gripper will help you out, big time!! His service is great! He really helped m out with a sizing problem on my La Crosce (sp?) Ice Kings.

And just in case you guys are wondering why I'm pushing these creepers, I have no connection with Ice Creeper or Fish/MN. Lots of guys here have helped me with fishing advice and the least I could do is help on a <great> product review. Since I got my Fish Trap 3 years ago, I've spent a lot of time tromping on the ice, early and late season, - I dont have 4 - wheeler, good grips are really important (especialy on early spring ice, kind of like it is now, wet and slippery) and I've went thru a couple of pair the last three years. Once I tried these, its easy to say that they're the best I've ever owned AND USED.

What type of price are we looking at? Do they make these really wide? I was up in Brainerd this past weekend and took a bad spill that sent me to the Emergency Room with my bell rung. Now that I think about it, I wish I would have had them, it would have saved me a hospital bill.

Measure across the ball of your feet on the boot. They currently go to 6" wide. There will be wider sizes available soon.

You also measure from the heel to the center of the ball to get the length. See the sizing chart using the link in my post above.

yes, these Grips are without peer when it comes to durabiltiy, ease of use, and ability to really give you traction.

Those %$%#@@$% ice grippers!

There must have been 4-5 pair of those things at the Fishingmn gathering Saturday on Rush Lake, and holy buckets do they rip up the ice! ya follow behind someone and you almost have to worry about falling through! Those things really grab! Pwaldow was using his to auger holes for fishing, and he would get through the ice faster than I would with my power auger!

Now, they are on my Chrismas list for santa! Nobody is going to beat me to the tip up now!

Last year I gave Rick a hard time about his grippers. They looked bulky to me and I laughed when he wanted to get me a pair. I had my cheap rubber-pull-over-with-chain types and I thought I was satisfied with them.
Well, after having 3 pairs of the cheap-o's break or having one side slip off and losing them, I decided to give the grippers a try this winter.
First thing I thought of was, how could I have lived without these baby's this long!!
It was like walking on solid ground, absolutely zero slippage while walking. I could not even tell I was wearing them. They are lightweight and very easy to put on and take off. Heck, I was thinking we could even get a bunch of us together and play softball on the ice this winter!! They grab that good.
If you're looking for new ice cleats, don't hesitate, get some Grippers!!

GullGuide I remember that well. I remember thinking, oh well, your loss. I also was pretty sure that once you decided to try them you'd be hooked.

Thanks Tom for bringing it up. brought a smile to my face remembering.

Rick, Have been shipping the new larger sizes of grippers for about two weeks now and am starting to get some great feedback. The new sizes are perfect for the LaCrosse and Sorels. Also if anyone has a special size requirement-either VERY large or VERY small- have them contact you and I can custom make them.

I can verify that the new, larger grippers work great. Tried mine out on New Years Day, we still don't have much snow around here, lots of glare ice, and they worked great! With them on, its almost like walking on dry land, you don't slip at all. And they fit my Ice Kings perfectly!

Thanks guys!!

On account of the cracked vexilar housing and the cartilage chunks floating around in my shoulder from the last time I biffed it on Mille Lacs 3 years ago I am officially putting this product straight to the top of my shopping list. Can I afford not to have these?

Although I've ordered a ton of stuff here, the ice grippers are the best thing I've bought this year. Obviously the lack of snow this year has created very slick conditions for foot travel, and I was sick of the "other" styles of cleats falling off my boots. When I first put them on, my "frugile" buddies were a little put off by the price, but when they saw me walking across the lake like I was in my living room, they were sold. They're worth every penny!
BTW - They made ME pull the sled all that day! frown.gif

Will you have some at the ice show in St.Paul? If so I would like to reserve a pair and pick them up on Friday.

I would like to meet some of the fantastic people that are on the sight, always good to put a face with the name.

    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
