the big dipper
I'm mounting my fold up model on my fish trap today, and going out for crappies tonight. Got skunked last Sunday eve. - hope for a better bite tonight.
Fish Toys
Hey BIG DIPPER didn't think you would have time to go fishing? You must have been using lute fish for bait? Try some Lefse?"FISH" ------------------http://www.icesaws.com/
BLACKJACK
Ok I jumped on the bandwagon and bought one of the tub mount units, it arrived Friday, but I've been looking it over for two days now, both with and without a buzz-on, and I'll be ****ed if I can figure out how its supposed to work??! Yeah I can see the four holes to mount it onto the Fishtrap with, but then what? Is your pole supposed to balance on that one silver peg? Whats to keep your pole from falling off the peg and going down the hole (especially if you hook a bigger fish or leave it unattended) Am I missing some parts? What if you're a left handed cranker, can I drive that silver peg out with a punch and insert it in the other side? The old saying, a picture is worth a thousand words sure applies here! A diagram/instructions sent with the unit sure would be nice....
Guest
BlackJack/ The tub mount is meant to be folded down when not in use. So size it up on the face of the tub. I have mine mounted between my legs. I reel with my right hand.So when the rod is balancing on the peg,the reel handle should be facing out. When you placed your order, i believe you can order either the right or left hand model. Next, you need to make sure you are using a rod/reel combo that is balanced, meaning you need about 1 inch of space from the reel mount to the end of the rod handle. If the reel is mounted to far up on the rod handle, there wont be enough room for it to sit on the peg, if its moutned too far back, the rod will sit back to high on the peg.I had to remount my reel, i did some trial and error to find the perfect fit. About an inch is what i found to be best for me. The rod then balances on the peg. If a big fish were to grab your bait and pull the rod foward, the reel should drop down off the peg and get caught on the peg. Also its best to see it in action when its moutned and ready to go. I tried to show some guys at work how it works in mid-air and it doesnt work.Good Luck------------------MILLE LACS AREA GUIDE SERVICE 651-271-5459 http://fishingminnesota.com/millelacsguide/click here
BLACKJACK
Thanks for the response D-man. Still kind of confused though when you start talking about moving your reel back and forth. No matter where your reel is mounted, you still end up placing your ROD on the silver peg right? On a spot where it will balance, like right in front of the reel? I will mount it tonight and see how a couple of rods fit. I 'assume' that it will work best for a jigging rod, one with no bobber, so you can see the rod tip go down... Guest
Yes, the spot between the reel and the end of the rod handle is where is lays on the peg. And yes it was designed for use without a bobber but it doesn't mean you can use a bobber set up with it.------------------MILLE LACS AREA GUIDE SERVICE 651-271-5459 http://fishingminnesota.com/millelacsguide/click here
Guest
For those of you who bought the tub mounts, you can take the screw out and trim the side of the shaft down, that way it can flip either up or down. Also, if you want the peg on the other side. Just flip the shaft over and turn the silver peg with a grippers. I have one on each side of my portable and they work great!! Guest
Howdy Fish heads!.....Just back from three days on LOW NW Angle and a stop at Upper Red on the way back yesterday. We absolutely slayed the walleyes up on LOW (nice big fish too) and Red was just so-so for us. We caught and released a ton of walleyes there and were plagued by dink perch too. Netted only three slabs there about five miles out from Hudec's. You need luck to get on those crappies, it's not a lock and that's for sure. Emerald shiners are the ticket there. Didn't have much luck with the Rosy Reds due to their being pretty small and an easy target for the nuisance perch to suck in. Also, on the walleyes, we had some pretty impressive results with the Scenic Tackle Angel Eyes in hammered gold with the slight red tinge on them. When the fish hit those, they usually came up the hole with both lips locked shut on the trebles. What a lure that is!! .......I used the tub mount for the first time myself over the weekend and had it mounted just to the right of my seat. It worked as advertised since alot of those walleyes took the bait pretty slow. Giving them enough time resulted in alot of hookups. I think between all seven of us, we must have caught and released over 200 fish and still were able to limit out. I had two R/R's going the whole time up there(when I wasn't workin' the Angel EYE)........Speaking to the reversibility of the bucket mounts-if you want to change the peg from left to right, just punch it out of the long part (use care when doing this) and drive it back in on the other side. Then, adjust the slot in the peg so it sits level on the top side when the arm is in position. There is a .005" pinch fit on the pin in the arm hole. Hope this helps! Now, I have a cooler full of fish to take care of........T
Duffman
For those of you that already have an Rock N Reel, remember to set the drag lighter. I know it looks like a rod would pop off it easy and go down the hole, but I have full confidence in leaving my rod on the R n R and walking away and checking a tip-up or chatting with somebody near by. If you have the stand alone unit, pack some snow on it to help keep it in place. If a big fish takes your bait when you are more than a few seconds away, the rod tips down and the reels drag will have less resistence thereby allowing the line to flow out easier. I haven't lost a rig yet, nor have heard of any of the gang losing one. It takes a while to trust the Rock N Reel and your favorite rig together, but after a while they are like best friends, one will not be found without the other. Fat Rap guy
Is the Rock n' Reel the same as the Mr. Jigger they sell at Sportsman's Warehouse?
we are 'the leading edge' HSO Creators Rick Posted December 18, 2002 we are 'the leading edge' HSO Creators Share Posted December 18, 2002 I've asked TBone if he can get the pics sent to me from Dave. As soon as I get them I'll let you know here.We already have quite a few of the Stand Alone Rock-n-Reels reserved when they come in. I don't see these lasting long either. I think we MIGHT have 1 or 2 of the Tub mounts left, they might be out though. I haven't asked about them today yet. Don't know when we can get more in.You can call the toll free number for ordering details:1 866-333-2160The Mr. Jigger is not the same as the Rock-n-Reel. The Rock-n-Reel uses a similar principle, is handier, and presents fewer problems to use it. If the Rock-n-Reel wasn't here, I would recommend the Mr. Jigger, with some reservations. I've expressed those reservations to the manufacturer already. The Mr. Jigger is definitely less expensive. So if you're on a tight budget, Mr. Jigger might be a good option. The problem will be dealing with the wire hanger, it's a bit low to the ground, and it's not as easy to haul around.[This message has been edited by Rick (edited 09-17-2003).]
Guest
I've been one of the lucky ones to be using the R&R for the last 2 years. I've had a 35" northern on the stand alone model and it showed me that there was NO worry about your rod going down the hole. You can believe every word you read about them, THEY WORK !!I have 4 stand alones, and a new bucket mount that I'll be putting on my tub tomorrow! They rank right up there with my Vex. Guest
Fat Rap Guy: The Stand-Alone R'N R folds into small unit for transporting / it also holds your rod at a good hight, sits on a special shaped pin that makes it very sensitive to being messed with - LOL / rod pulls off of it easy for quick hook-set / not the same at all ~~~~~~~~ Old Mooneye is in trouble ><>
Jig stick
HELP! T-Bone How did you mount yours to your otter tub? the tub has a big lip on them. And when you fold them up they stick way up and out in the air. Is this the way you design them? Looks like the bucket would be the best thing to mount it to. Just drill the holes and use screws with wing nuts to mount on the bucket, so you can take off to store.Anybody have any suggestions on how I should mount these things? Thanks Jig Stick ><sUMo>---------><>
Guest
Jig Stick......The unit was designed to be fastened under the lip partially. You might have a bucket mount version instead of a tub mount version. Easy way to tell is look at the end of the part that swings out of the mount. If the end of it comes to a 45 degree angled point, it's a bucket mount. If it's cut off a little (about 3/16ths of an inch) it's a tub mount. The tub mount is designed so that the arm swings down and stores flat against the tub. Then, when you swing it up, it goes a little past 90 deg. and into position. I have one mounted on my Shoremaster and it works fine. So, if you have a bucket mount, cut the sharp end off like I described above and turn it around and re mount it. Then it will swing up into position for you. You may have to turn the aluminum rod rest peg so that the slot is level when it's in position-after you turn it around. You may also want to drive the metal pin out and re-install it on the other side if that suits you better. You should be able to figure this out, there's not much there to confuse.....T
