lcornice
Quote:Anyone here how the first season went. Just curious, I will be hunting them the first week of december. 2 groups tagged out first morning. I didn't hear about the last group. As it gets closer to your hunt, I'd suggest calling the Thief Lake staff. They'll have the most recent information on elk locations.
Gissert
Nice going for the groups that connected. Having drawn a tag in 2005, I really wanted to come up and hang out with the great friends I made during that hunt.Alas, corn chopping duties ruled the day....To all: Please think about joining and/or attending a Rocky Mountain Elk Chapter or event. They are making a big difference in the elk herds in this state.
Nate McVey
Agreed Gissert, the RMEF, along with many of it's partners, are making great strides in conservation in MN. This was the highest fund raising year for the RMEF in MN, so 2008 should see a lot of new projects. I can't remember what chapter you belong too, but if you have a banquet coming up will you let me know. Thanks

frummybear
Those are some sweet pics!!! It is crazy to think of the elk roaming in MN, but my fiend works NW MN for the DNR and he said there are quite a few of them!! I live in AZ and there are some big ones out here in the Flagstaff area.

CSP
i posted this link before, but in case anyone missed it, or cares....there's a few more pictures of the kittson county elk herd on here.http://www.wiktel.net/birdsanctuary/elk.htm opening of bow hunting weekend, i got chased back to my car by the bull........it was pretty much dark and i got the bright idea to practice my vocalizations. He would just kind of look at me like what the heck are you doing. - then i tried a moose "mew"....the big sucker started walking towards me.....i did it again and he took off running straight for me.....that's the fastest i think i've ever run in my life, but it was a crazy cool experience. -i suppose he was about 25-30 yards away when i finally got back to the car......then he chased me for a bit when i was driving away......The offer is open to anyone on here....if you want to see the Kittson County herd close up....let me know, we have a cabin you're welcome to stay at for free, just so long as you're respectfull to the place and the neighbors......pm me if intereseted
