Now to make the oil mixture a little more confusing for the season.

This year Tecumseh has approved a 40:1 oil mixture in your 2-cycle power augers. New augers coming out for this season will have the new 40:1 recommendation.

Tecumseh also stated that you can use the 24:1 or 40:1 mixture ratio on old or new engines.

To obtain the proper 40:1 mixture it is 3.2oz. of oil to 1 gallon of gas.

Jiffy this year will have the new ratio bottles available this year with fuel stabilizer already added.

Yeah!!!! Less smoke:)

I had to throw my two cents in here. Picked up a packet of Amsoil Sabre 100:1 at the ice fishing show last year and I am a believer. I know that isn't the question but it would be a suggestion. One mix for all your stuff and everything runs better too! Also, you don't have to call your high school physics teacher to figure out mixes anymore. Good Luck.

To answer your questions in reverse order:

No, you won't burn up your motor. AMSOIL gives you a lubricant guarantee that basically says if you use it the way AMSOIL recommends AMSOIL guarantees you against lubricant failure.

NOTE: There are 2 different AMSOIL Saber products. For your Auger (and all other air cooled pre-mix 2-stroke engines) use the Saber Professional. [saber Outboard is for your water cooled pre-mix outboard motor.]

The Saber Professional is available in several package sizes. The most convenient for mixing small quantities of gas is the "pillow pack" packet which mixes 1 gallon of gas, the suggested retail is $1.30. The 3.5-oz bottle will mix 2 to 2 1/2 gallons of gas, sugg retail $2.10. The 8-oz bottle which will mix 6 gallons (many people use the whole 8-oz in a 5 gallon gas can, running it richer but convenient), sugg retail $3.70.

A few stores do sell it, but I would appreciate the business, you can order it direct on line, follow my link. UPS direct to your door, 1 or 2 business day delivery to most in Minnesota from the Superior, WI distribution center.

weed wackers, chain saws, leaf blowers, any 2 stroke air cooled engine. The amsoil also works great in your auto too. When it all boils down, it is cheaper than standard oil, with much better protection. I bought my Chev new in 95, used Amsoil since the first oil change, and still going very strong at better than a quarter of a million miles. I have only changed the oil 11 times with all those miles. Thats one of the beauties of amsoil.

    • Sounds pretty sweet, alright. I will check them out, thanks.
    • If you really want to treat your wife (and yourself) with a remote operated trolling motor, the Minn Kota Ulterra is about easy as it gets.  Auto stow and deploy is pretty awesome.  You just have to turn the motor on when you go out and that the last time you have to touch it.   24V 80lb.  60 inch shaft is probably the right length for your boat.  They ain’t cheap - about $3k - but neither one of you would have to leave your seat to use it all day.
    • Wanderer, thanks for your reply. I do intend for it to be 24 volt, with a thrust of 70-80. Spot lock is a must (my wife is looking forward to not being the anchor person any more).  With my old boat we did quite a lot of pulling shad raps and hot n tots, using the trolling motor. Unlikely that we will fish in whitecaps, did plenty of that when I was younger. I also need a wireless remote, not going back to a foot pedal. We do a fair amount of bobber fishing. I don't think I will bother with a depth finder on the trolling motor. I am leaning toward moving my Garmin depth finder from my old boat to the new one, just because I am so used to it and it works well for me. I am 70 years old and kinda set in my ways...
    • Dang, new content and now answers.   First, congrats on the new boat!   My recommendation is to get the most thrust you can in 24V, assuming a boat that size isn’t running 36V.  80 might be tops?  I’m partial to MinnKota.     How do you plan to use the trolling motor is an important question too.     All weather or just nice weather?   Casting a lot or bait dragging?   Bobber or panfish fishing?   Spot lock?  Networked with depth finders?  What brand of depth finders?
    • We have bought a new boat, which we will be picking up this spring. It is an Alumacraft Competitor 165 sport with a 90 horse Yamaha motor. I will be buying and installing a trolling motor,  wondering if I can get some recommendations on what pound thrust I will want for this boat?  Also, I will be selling my old boat, is there a good way to determine the value on an older boat ( mid-80's with a 75 horse 2-stroke  Mariner motor)  I will appreciate any help with these questions.
    • Sketti...  not out of a jar either!
    • Lol yeah I watched that
