Youth day CHILLY morning???

I take him alone in the morning. He struggles getting up, but after a while he is fine. My 3 year old, I pretty much only take him in the evening. The main thing is keeping them warm. Bring hand warmers, winter clothes, good boots maybe even some old blankets. Even though 40 degrees seems like good duck weather to us, it is really cold for the kids. Last year on really cold mornings, I didn't take him. To me the key seems like as long as they are comfortable they are content and have fun.

This was my last year I could do the youth hunt. I got my 6 ducks while hunting up by winnie. There was more woodies, teal, and mallards than last year but did not see nearly as many diving ducks. I don't know much about wich duck migrates first/last but when do most diving ducks migrate?

Bassmaster, what body of water did you hunt or don't you want to say? There is a little lake up there that I fished on once that looked like a gold mine for duck hunting. I won't put it on here but maybe you hunted it. Post if you choose or I'll email....

I took all my kids when they were quite young. I usually had a shaker call to simulate feeding mallards and the kids got to use it in the boat. That and hot chocolate and cookies made for a great trip for them.

well not orginially. For the last four years ive been back in MN, but I lived there before that for 9yrs. Doesnt really matter I guess.

The boys I had out for the youth hunt are both 13 yrs old. My boys are 5 and 7 so here in Wi. there just along for the ride. Heres what I like to bring for the little ones. A back pack with a couple non loud toys (good luck with that one ) Snacks, juice boxes, extra clothes and gloves. I also let them bring a toy gun and dress them in camo. Let them play with the calls if theres no other hunters close by. Don't forget the lifejackets and ear plugs. Key is to keep them from getting to bored and somedays you might have to leave eariler then you want.

The decline in young hunters is scary and its going to hurt the future of hunting. Its up to us to get kids involved in waterfowl hunting so this great tradition never dies. Good luck hunting

I recently heard a statistic that hunting in the midwest has decreased by around 10%, give or take alittle. Its a scary statistic being the population in the world has doubled in the last 40 yrs, and we are still losing our sport.

Sorry about the delay, hadn't checked this thread in a while. I don't mind posting it, I took the guys out on Big Rice Lake WMA near Remer. I use the phrase "near Leech" because most people recognize that, I say Remer, most people say "Where?". Sorry if it was misleading....... Probably not what you were looking for.
