Opening day of dove season! Any reports? Success?

I would love to be out in the fields today, but I've got some plans. I plan on doing the dove thing on Monday though.

Lets hear how you did and what kind of numbers you saw for this opening day. Looks pretty windy out there. Lead'm way out in front.

Well four of us went to the local honey hole ( sewage lagoons) and shot 38 this morning by 10:15 a.m. Almost all singles and a few doubles that were coming in. We had them coming into the wind so that worked out pretty good as far as the shots not being too tough. Will go out this evening and hopefully finish off the limit. My scouting has shown more birds coming in the evening so I think we are going to do all right. We'll see.

Bad morning of dove hunting for me. Did see alot of pheasants, though. The dog had troubles retrieving birds out of the non-cut grass, because he would chase up a pheasant or two every time.

Went back out Saturday evening with six guys and ended up the day shooting a six man limit total for the day. They were definitely flying better in the evening. Good time had by all.

hey man ... no such luck my near by wma's, none are open to dove hunting ... there are 8 feilds the dnr manages for doves but the closest ones are in anoka county nearsest to forest lake, nowthen and east bethel areas ... but they sound like a pretty good bet for a successful morning afternoon hunt. made a post for a good spot around here ... you know any state land where its open to the doves. maybe go scoutin for privite land where there is farmer dump ponds and gravel

I got out for the first time tonight. Just got myself a Remington 11-87 premier lc in 20 gauge so I took her out for her maiden voyage. Wound up with 10 doves. Could have easily got my limit but I have yet to master the art of shooting doves. On the positive side this little 20 gauge is a sweeeeeeeet shooter. Going to try it again Tuesday so I'll let you know how it goes.

I shoot my old 20 ga. Rem. 1100 lightweight for doves. 2.75" 7.5's equal bad medicine for doves. Love that gun.
