BassProAddict
Gear Survey and lure success rates Hey guys just a gear survey.I wanna know how the rest of you are setup and what you like using. How many rods and reels (indicate types pls) do you use for bass when you get out? What has been your success rate with lures you use? Myself, I have 5 rods. Two baitcasters and three spinning.I have the the two casters set for crankbaiting and heavier lures like buzz and spinners. The three spinning are set up for Texas rigged plastics, Carolina and ultralite jigging. My success, if denominated by 100% would be divided as 40% on crankbaits and 60% on worms.I've had good success on Rapala Dives-to as well as jointed Rapalas. On worms, i've gotten most success on darker colored ones.I've NEVER had a topwater strike and I've never had a bite on a spinner/buzz.What's your story? ikeslayer
Well this is a tough one. Rods and reels are easy to say what i have but success rate that will be tough.7' m St. Croix SCII, Spinning, Gander guide series GSC35 Grub, small jerkbait6'6" m St. Croix SCII, Spinning, Gander guide series GSC35, Jig worm,5'10 mh Pluger rod, Spinning, Gander guide series GSC35, dock skipping special6'6" m Gander guide series rod, Spinning, Gander guide series GSC35, Banjo minnow, mimmic minnow, small top water, minni cranks/dropshotting7'2 mh S.C.III, Spinning, Gander guide series GSC35, Misc Whatever i need it to be7'2 mh SCIII, BC, Diawa reel, Cranks7'8 h SCII, BC, Basspro extreme, Flippen/Froggen7'0 mh, SCIII, bc, diawa reel, jigs/spinners6'3 mh, tiger eye, bc, Quantum reel, Spinnerbaits.6'6 mh, SCV, bc, Quantum reel, Tube/texas riggs I probably missed a couple but that is mostly what i use. As far as sucess rate i let the fish decide that. It changes daily and i couldn't tell you what i have caught the most fish on. In my early days all i threw was a banjo and a power grub and those pretty much caught all my fish. That is just not concrete enough to give you an answer. ike
FishinChad
Basspro, you gotta get yourself some buzzbaits and watch a few fish explode on your lure, nothing better then big bass on topwater lures. As far as what I use, I have 2 spinning rods and thats about it. Usually using 20lb Fireline crystal or lighter. 1 Rod with a buzzbait or spinnerbait, whichever I feel is better that day, and the other rod rigged with weightless worm, usually somekind of blue-spec powerbait. I just dont have the space for more rods in my small boat, and I dont mind having to re-tie sometimes.I would say this year I have gotten about 30% on buzzbait, 40% on spinnerbaits, and 30% on the worm. ocf1
Ive got two spinning rods, and becuase of the limitations they have I tend to Do finesse type presentations, like skipping and weightless. That said I just bought an almost new baitcaster that I bet will have a jig on it 75% percent of the time, time for a little spinnerbait and crankbait action

lookincalifornia
i am a lowly shore angler, so i am limited to one rod. a 6'6" mh baitcaster, one has 14lb fireline and one has 14lb TX. i would say 90% of my bass have come on a california green terminator spinnerbait. either 1/4 or 3/8 oz. afew fish on a bronzeye frog and other varous topwaters. i like to cover as much H2O as i can, so i don't throw alot of plasics anymore. plus, the lakes out here lack weedlines, mostly rock and brush. and crazy deep. grab the net
I carry the normal number of rod & reel combo's in the boat, approximately 14, 9 baitcasting, 5 spinning. Plus the 4 ultra-light combo's for panfish. BC- go from 6-6 medium to 7-10 heavy flipping. Majority are Loomis, with a few St. Croix Avid. Spinning, 6-6 Medium to 7.0 MH Reels are all Shimano for BC, Castaic, Metanium's, Curado's. Spinning reels, Daiwa, Shimano Success rates, depends on what the fish want. I enjoy the shallow water bite and spend a lot of time doing that.

BassProAddict
Been having dreams about topwater strikes and for some reason, I end up getting 'em from crankbaits and texas-rigged worms. I must be doing something wrong.
EBass
Quote: Why such a heavy test when finesse fishing? I use 8lb. Mono, Am I off base with that? I like to skip under docks and trees. The heavier line won't break as easy. I do tie a florocarbon leader if in clear water, and that's 12lb or 15lb test Pline. Plus we live in pike country, the braid has saved many o jigs This is what I'm confident in. You're not off base if you're confident in your presentation.
