DRH1175
Anyone ever been on a outfiter hunt. A buddy of mine is going with his brother late september just north of International Falls on the Canadian side. He is Guaranteed a Bear. Gets me thinking I may try it next year maybe. What are others opinions on the hunts?
harvey lee
Nothing wrong with a guided hunt at all. Maybe cost you a little more but you also have someone else doing all the work for you. One can go and just enjoy the hunt. Here's a sponsor that has these hunts.http://www.gatewaynorthoutfitters.net/winter_laketrout.html
roosterslayer
is it wild hunting?? i have heard of outfitters guaranting a shot oportunity but never heard of a guaranted bear unless it was a high fence operation.

DRH1175
Guaranteed chance it is free chase. But they have so many bears up there that they can guarantee having a chance. I have been wanting to bear hunt but just don't have the time to do all the baiting myself. It just sounds fun!
harvey lee
I would contact the outfitter and discuss your options. I would guess its all fair chase as they have so many bear. A good location for a chance at a real trophy. Lucas Adams could really explain all the hunt he has including bear. He also has some great lake trout locations for those who would like to find some awesome laker action.
maros91
Do your homework on the outfitter before you choose. Don't be afraid to ask many questions. Get some refrences. A canadian bear hunt sounds awesome since they have so many bear. The video I bought many years ago has a guy hunting over bait with 4 different bear in there at one time. It was awesome. Do your homework before you choose!!
bubs
do your homework research the outfitter. ask for referances. And CALL THEM. Ask alot of questions, see if he keeps a log on his success and what the % is in the past five years. don't go by there pic.s you see at a show.see what your buddy thinks of the place he is going to this fall. Maybe he'll recomend it and you won't have to do any homework. I have a friend that goes to igness and loves the outfitter. just feel your gut when you are talking to them. I have had realy good trips and had some very bad ones.

Double D
Mike L,Are you heading to Dog Lake by any chance? Actually, I am going with a bear hunting group next week, but I am just going to fish. This group is a group of leftovers that did not tag a bear a few weeks back and they want another crack at it. Clearwater West Lake NW of Atikokan. Someday I want to take the bear hunting plunge up there. Their first trip their group of 10 saw 36 bears of all sizes, got 8, lost 2, passed on 20 small ones.Good luck!!DD
bass-o-matic
I've been on 3 Ontario bear hunts now. 2 with one outfitter, and 1 with a different one. All 3 trips were good, and each outfitter had his pros/cons. I wouldn't hesitate to book with either of them again, and actually have friends heading up there on Saturday. Only reason I'm not going is b/c I've shot 2 bears now and am heading out west at the exact same time to try and get something different.Everyone is right though in that you need to make a list of all questions and ask the outfitter as well as references. Depending on what is offered will also affect your price. One of the places I went to was archery only, didn't include transportation to/from the stand every night nor skining/butchering of the bear once shot. But I knew this going in and he was recommended by a number of guys I know that have been there before, so I booked with him. In 2 trips, I shot a record book bear, passed up a smaller one, and had an opportunity at another record booker. It was a lot of work on our part once we were there, but the price was well worth it for what we got out of the trip.Just do your homework and know exactly what you are getting for the price and call as many references as you can. A dishonest outfitter will tell you everything you want to hear, but it's actually someone who's been there that will give you an honest opinion. One thing I would make sure to ask is about the GST and PST taxes and if they are included in the quote you get, as it will definitely add on an extra couple of hundred bucks to the total. If you don't expect it, it will come as a nice little surprise!
superbee
There are alot of bears in the are ajust North of the Minnesota border. There are alot of good outfitters as well. You need t get in contact with the outfitter and see if he sounds like he knows what he is doing and get a list of successful and unsuccessful references and see what there previous clients say. Nobody can honestly guarantee a bear, they can give you shot opportunities. I have had near 100% success for most of the past seasons, but am running 100% on shot opportunities. You can go to my HSOforum and get some mor info on our operation - www.gatewaynorthoutfitters.netIf you have any questions about our hunts or just general info, me know and I would be happy to help out. If you would like me to send you ourt new brochure, email me your address and I will put it in the mail when we get them back from the printer. Mike_Law
Ya i just got home from Dog Lake, Had a GREAT time, those guys are awesome!!! We shot a 340lb bear! AWESOME HUNT!!! you will be able to see it on Knights Born to Hunt next June! I think they have one great operation there!! they were running 100% till this week, i think 2 guys did not tag out, 1 had his chance but shot the barrel instead of the bear due to a digital camera in his left breast pocket that caught the string. it was a lot of fun, cant wait till i get a chance to go back next year and hunt my self with OUT a camera!
