Muskiy Fishing Gloves

Recommended Posts

What do you guys use for fishing on those cold windy fall days for musky fishing? I've tried all types of neoprene gloves and those would keep your hands dry kind of but freezing cold. I've tried the thicker Shimano ones and those did the same. I tried regular winter gloves which work, but are too bulky. I was thinking maybe the Ice Armour gloves that are supposedly good enough to put your hands under the ice and still say warm? Any experience with these or own personal tips? Thanks!

I like to go steelhead fishing in the fall/ early winter and really like the Simms flipover mitts (fingerless glove with flipover mitt). For slightly warmer conditions I like to use fingerless fleece gloves. I also carry a pair of OR unlined overmitts if/when my fingers start to numb. Also the air activated warming packs work well to keep my hands warm when it's a bit nippy.

The Musky Armor gloves are great for handling fish. They’re light weight and tight enough (like a batting glove or golf glove) where you don’t lose anything with your dexterity. They do a great job protecting you from the gill rakers on a thrashing fish. But they aren’t a cold weather fishing glove. They’re relatively thin and not water proof. I haven’t experimented much with gloves. I just don’t like casting with gloves on. But I’ve heard a lot of great things about Seal Skin gloves.

Lindy gloves aren't for the thrashing fish. Had a 42 in pike cut right through them in Canada. Seal skins are water proof, but provide absolutely no warmth. I purchased the Ice Armour, and haven't fished cold enough weather with them yet. Interested in hearing about the muskie gloves.

Late season I wear the duck hunting gear so I'm usually wearing the lighter gore tex gloves with the thin trigger finger, they keep my hands dry and relatively warm. I do keep a pair of mittens on the dash, so taking a break or driving to a spot, I put those on for a little more warmth and to move the fingers around a bit.

Another tip for the cold is to switch rods once in a while, keeps the hand from being in the same position and gets the fingers moving a bit more and the blood flowing with a different grip.

I'm considering a glove for handling, I cut a finger on a gill raker/shaker fish and it took a long time in the cold for that thing to quit bleeding.

I have had the Ice Armour gloves for two years now and I love them. I used them earlier this year open water fishing up on pool 2 for walleyes. Same situation as muskiefool. I was comfortable, my partner was cold. And as far as putting your hands down a hole during ice season, works fine. I actually have used my hands with the gloves on to skim the ice more often than used my ice skimmer. Never a wet hand or cold one. I just prop them up in my house over the heat somewhere and they are dried and good to go for the next round. The only reason I dry them is that they will become stiff from the moisture freezing on the outside. I have actually had them freeze almost solid on my hand and when I took them off, my hands were sweating inside.
