Cat Compulsion Report (8/20/07)

Recommended Posts

Just for the record, I’m going to go right ahead and remove myself from this post as I got skunking blanked for the evening. Not even so much as a bite or a run.

My boats been “warm” as each of our last 3 outings have unanimously been decided on as being our best catfishing outing ever. Each outing got better than the previous and this evening was no different.

The spot… One nice thing about this spot is that we found it. I’m kinda proud of that as it’s no easy task (google maps & H20c w/chip). I would like to throw props out to many of you on this forum for help indicating key points/tips/hints on what to look. It had several of the telltale signs of catfish. Deep hole, wood, rip rap, steep dropoff, current, and baitfish.

5 minutes into the evening we had our first bite. Crazyice’s rod with the very large sucker does the wack, with a slow load. It certainly look “flatish” but ended up being a nice 8# 15oz - 29” channel.

Not long after that I hear some rustling in the front of the boat and Rugbyguy slowly and gently grabs his “big” rod. I knew something was up, but it wasn’t until after a perfect hookset and seeing the bend of his “baseball bat rod” that I knew this was our first flattie. He claims in momentarily hung up on something, but I think this thing was just pulling so hard (and heavy) that he really couldn’t tell. When she surfaced I guess at least 20#, but once in the net I realized that was a low estimate. This fish ROCKED the scales at 30# 3oz (38” long x 26” girth). This is Rugby’s largest fish of his life and certainly his biggest flattie. Nice fish buddy!

Next howellcanufish goes on a 4 fish channel cat terror with 3 over 9lbs including a 12# 11oz and a 13# 12oz (30.25”) which were both his new personal best channels! (All were screaming runs, man what a hoot!)

Crazyice has been on 3-4 flathead trips with nothing to show for and just then his “big” rod does some funny business. A perfect feel/load/set later and he did battle with a his first ever flathead catfish. 7# 24.5”

Just as we removed crazyices first flat from the hook Rugbyguy says “Guys you might want to net this one” We didn’t even have time to get the hook/line/sinker out of the net. The legendary flathead double happened.

Crazyice ends the evening with his new personal best flathead @ 10# 5oz - 28.25”

Can’t forget the blooper pics (Those that fish with me, know these pics are inevitable)

Just to recap...

Hopefully crazyice got some pics with the control for the KOTC contest since he is our new team member as of yesterday.

I'm actually a day late on posting this report. These were caught on 8/20; The day before crazyice was added to the KOTC roster.

What a night, we had an absolute blast! Hopefully we'll have many more evenings out like that one again. We didn't even have to fish until sunrise to round em up. Thanks again Holmer for the experience. We'll hit em up around the Kato area next time. It always seems like I get into the blooper pics...wonder why?

Yeah that was definately a blast! I was more than willing to be net boy for that 30lber! Next time it will be my turn though! Yeah it is too bad that I wasn't in the KOTC until the next day or I could have put up numbers the first day in the contest for me. Oh well, next time, which if all goes as planned will be tomorrow morning for channels.

Thats a purdy Miss River fish there RugbyGuy!

Big, Big Congratulations goes out to you and the entire boat. Tyler & I were e-mailing each other about what I think constitutes a good Miss River spot, and it looks like you guys took that advice and ran with it in a big way!

I was telling Dtro in the boat last night that I ought to just quit fishing and start giving advice. Seams like everyone I give advice to does well, yet I must not listen to what I'm saying.

Just be careful, cattin' is addicting and you'll forget that you used to spend days upon days fishing for bluegills, crappie, and perch. grin.gif
