NASCAR's greatest driver

I just watched a show put on by ESPN in regards to the Greatest drivers in history. I know this is just one view on shows but, guess who was #1, DALE EARNHARDT.

They all agreed that Sr was a NASCAR ICON. I really thought it may have been Petty. Not Kyle either.

Michigan is still under delay for rain.

I for one will be a fan of the old #3 for ever! He was the reason I watched NASCAR when I was younger and part of why I am still a fan today. I skipped school to stay home and watch the funeral on TV.

I have to agree, I'd say its Sr, King and then Gordon. But lets see where Gordon ends up. He could move up by the time his career is over.

Gordon now 5th but I'm sure he will move up a spot or maybe two.

Ya, I know that you are just passing on what ESPN is saying on their show. But....I bet you kind of had a smile on your face when you posted it though, knowing you are a Dale Sr. fan.

I saw that show about a month back too and was surprised it wasn't Petty #1 and Dale #2. Maybe they are just trying to do some PR work and get more fans onboard with ESPN.

I was going to post something about the show but figured I might as well not even try.

I don't think Greatest necessarily means on the track, overall Driver impact I would agree its the 3.

He was great in life also. He had more to do with making NASCAR what it is today than any other driver ever.

SR. was great in life and in racing but you have to compare drivers in time periods,maybe by decades whatever rules and number of races always change. I'm just saying that the media and some fans of Sr. have made him in some respects larger in death than he was in life.

Everyone has their opinion! If it wasn't for the Allison's, Petty's, Fireball Robert's and hundreds of others from the late 50's and early 60's The NASCAR drivers of today and of the last decade would be like aborted babies-- Not around.

I'd like to know what criteria they used to come up with "The Greatest".
