Rainy Day...

Its raining today, I'm cleaning house, and realizing that winter is not all that far away.

As I was cleaning and reorganizing, I noticed a couple things...

1- Dang I own a lot of ice fishing stuff.

2- Dang I own a lot of ice fishing stuff.

I'm pretty excited for winter to come, I'll be happy when fall is here too but that is usually the precurser to winter excitement.

Already planning on Lake of the Woods a few times, URL for sure. Heck, maybe that will be it this year. URL was so good to me last year I don't know why I'd go anywhere else. Great fishing, good times at Hillman's Tall Tales, watching Jonny-P launch off snowdrifts with Big Sexy Yellow truck, man... what a good time.

Am I alone? Who else is with me? Who can't stand this winter anticipation?

Oh... almost forgot... Portable Ice House Modification get-together is coming up soon as well at Thorne Bros.

Good Lord, that will just about put a guy over the edge I think. grin.gif

Then we can wait for the official start of winter, the big Ice Show at the St Paul Rivercentre.

Seams like such a long time away now.

I'm with ya. Today, plenty bored. Shot the bow for an hour and then started checking my ice gear. Noticed that I have two Nils auger tips that need to be sent back for a trade. Also charged by LX5 again and noticed my battery is shot for my camera, so its off to buy a new one some day. I have one new portable Otter to put together and a few other items.

2-3 more raining days and I will be ready. The get together at Thorne Bros scares me as I really need nothing for the ice season but, you know how it goes in a big kids candy store.

It will be here before ones knows it. The hunting season always goes to fast.

I'm soooooooooooo with you fellas. This morning I was supposed to be working on installing my new furnace. It isn't going well and I don't have a metal brake and my sheet metal work looks terrible. Lucky for my my buddy came by with a trailer frame for me to weld running gear on for fish house conversion.

Then I started going through my stuf. I set up the portable in the garage and sat in it for a while. Why not, the wife already thinks I'm weird.

I'm thinking aboot a few trips this winter also. Hopefuly slabfest will be as fun as it was last year. There may be a trip to Appledorns if I can, and definately a wife, kids, and me trip back to Highbanks on Winnie. Ya, I'm getting giddy.

The fact that I haven't been on the water too much due to boat problems doesn't help. frown.gif

See yous guys at the portable mod get together!!! grin.gif

Yup, I am getting pretty itchy myself. Going to be on vacation from Nov 15th- March 1. It is a good thing I have a very understanding and tolerant spouse! I will be on the ice every day during my time off. I am setting a goal to outdo myself again this year as far as time on the ice. Last year I missed 12 days...other than that, I was out everyday. Man, I hope we have early ice again this year!

Golf Course Superintendent, actually. grin.gif Actually it has been a long haul for me since April with hardly no time off at all. I don't fish during the summer because I am either on call or at work- so I have alot of pent up fishing rage once the golf season is over. Can't wait!

Hanson I am with you but man there is too much to get done before we are ready for ice. But I agree I have way too much dump. I have elk hunting, deer hunt in MN and ND, Hopefully a couple more fishing trip, then if there is time duck and pheasants. I don't know how I am going to fit it all in and if I have to work any weekends I am screwed grin.gif. You know I was home this weekend and I should have grabbed my Nils to rejet it but I guess it will be there the next time I get there.

Well I've been too busy with my "honey do" list to even think about playing with my ice fishing stuff. Although I still day dream about fishing URL and other lakes. In fact I tried to book with Kelly about a month ago but I'll need to wait until Oct until I can do that. I so tired of waiting. frown.gif

    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
