Boat seats, where to look?

Scott K

Question

I am in need of some new boat seats, I have been looking around and Im not happy with the ones I am seeing out there. They either want way to much for them, but they are nice ones, or they are really cheesy. Where should I look? Where have you guys gotten replacements, and are you satisfied with the quality? Or should I just get mine redone, is that a better option?

I opted for what I thought to be mid-range seats, and I wish I would have spent more.

I spent about $40 per seat - I wish I would have gotten the $100 ones. The padding on the $40 ones flattens out in no time.

I would say make sure you SIT in them before buying... don't make the mistake we did... heh. Make sure they are comfy.

You might even want to check with local marine dealers to see if they have any blems or seats customers did not want. I am thinking of getting some new Alumacraft seats for our 10 year old boat, at least for my Dad and the driver seat, as they are starting to get pretty "used"...

Good Luck, and watch out for the cheap plastic ones - better plastic ones might be better, but ours are too small and too hard that we put into our rehabbed boat. But they are camo and look cool wink.gif ha!

I've had the same problem. My drivers seat is flat, and all of them soak up water after a rain, even if they're folded down. These came from Cabela's and cost around $75 each. Do I have to spend more? I hate having to wear to rain pants on a nice morning to keep my butt from getting wet just because it rained during the night.

ha!

Box- There aren't many seat manufacturer's producing camo covered seats, yours wouldn't happen to be the Tempress brand would they.

Anyone have an opinion on Tempress seats? I know Cabelas carries them, I've seen them at Fleet Farm. I also believe they are OEM on some boats as well, I think I've seen them on Alumacrafts and possibly Crestliners too.

I've been looking for 3 new seats for my boat and just haven't pulled the trigger yet. The seat I have right now don't match blush.gif and I gotta fix that. grin.gif

Some of the better ones I have seen and wanted were from overtons, they have a captain chair with armrests, and it reclines. I really want it, and for anly $400, ouch but it would be nice!

I bought two tempress high backs from Fleet and they are great! They don't flatten out and the base/hinges are made out of thick plastic. My fat -ss hasn't bent the hinges like the other boat seats I've bought over the years.Do yourself a favor and get the $100+seats and you won't be putting on another set in a couple of years.(Depending on how much you use your rig) grin.gifIMO,The tempress brand seats are better quality materials and seem to hold up much better under heavy use.c63

I was eyeing the Tempress ones - and wishing I had bought those. If you watch end of season or such, you can get them at pretty good prices.

I've seen the $200+ seats - they look nice! But if I outfit my boat with those, thats a lot of dough! Unless you just get one for yourself and make your fishing buddies suffer in the cheap seats (but end up with a ghetto-looking boat).

Hanson, I am not quite sure to be honest but pretty sure they are not Tempress, but we got them at Cabelas, and they are not the "Big Man" or the Nicer Taller Back Tempress seats. I like the look of the Tall Tempress.

Got them about 5 or 6 years ago. We did not get the most spendy ones, and the ones on thier HSOforum now have different back shapes than ours, but most likely the Cabelas brand low back seats.

Ours are just not that comfy and the camo fabric was never fastened properly - just cheap. The Tempress look pretty solid - get the high back though, IMHO.
