No #8 for JR @ Hendrick

It was reported that DEI and Hendrick could not come to a deal to have the #8 go to Hendrick with Jr next season. I'm sure there are going to be a ton of fans upset with DEI about the decision, but Jr had to know there would be some rampifications for leaving DEI. So I don't really blame DEI for not letting it go.

I heard it will likely be 81, 87, or maybe 88. That way all those fans won't have to remove the tattoo, just add another number by it.

It's too bad Red bull runs the 83 car, that would have fit well. There's always the 08...then again maybe it's just time to move on and just drive the 5.

I would have been suprised if he would have recieved the #8 from DEI. I dont believe that the number change will mean much. In fact, what a sales tool for Hendrick and Jr. New clothes and hats for all. Big dollars.

Yates did part with the Texaco "29" several years ago. I think that was his flagship number, too.

I guess I look at it as nothing really all that big. The 8 was his grandfather's car number anyway...so with Jr going to a different number, he can become recognized by it rather than being a number reminiscent of someone else.

I guess Yates has less pride than I thought....but that seems to be in short supply these days so I suppose it shouldn't be much of a surprise. That's NA$CAR.....

I thought the 38 was a possibility.....much more than the 88 since it won a championship and all. But, Yates is probably desperate and broke.

I'll believe it when the cover comes off the car next Wednesday. You know how much stock can be placed in NASCAR rumors....especially if ESPN broke the news.
