Some how some way were still kind of in this race obviously if we could have picked up a decent bat somewhere it would be a big help as it looks like the pitching is awesome right now.

Like Harvey said it never has and maybe never will happen here in Minnesota so just DEAL with it.... grin.gif and hope we can win our 3rd World Series which is more then White or Red sox have won in 100 years... cool.gif

I don't have the desire to do the research required by some, so this is simply my humble opinion.

I'm with spinner in that offensive production is still the main concern for the Twins. Who cares about last years stats, our starting pitching and team ERA have been good enough to win more games than they have. Seems like lots more guys left on base and less clutch hitting. Say what you will about this year vs last year. You cannot deny the fact that we have above average starting pitching. It's that you have (had) guys like Ford, Punto, Kubel, and a couple AAA players regularly in the lineup that would come up in a clutch situation and fail to produce time after time.

Couple quick offensive stats. 17 of last 31 games, Twins score 3 runs or less. 51 of our 110 games this year, 3 runs or less scored. I think Gordon said we have been shut out 9 times this season. It's amazing that we are 4 games out of first.

its nice you gave names that could be dealt away, but who would they pick up? Casilla will be better than Castillo and his legs arent bad. Also, he got the game winning RBI yesterday. Someone earlier bashed him for losing the friday game. If Morneau comes out of this slump and Johan stops givig up late game homers, they will probably take the division like last year.

So how much should they have been willing to give up to acquire a good bat at the deadline?

Should they have given up Slowey to get someone like Dmitri Young or Adam Dunn? That is what it would have taken...

Until they know for sure if they can resign Santana they have to be careful about letting go of pitching. They are going to need all of those young arms if Sanatana decides to sign else where. And then if Liriano isn't the same when he comes back they will really need those arms.

"I think the only stat that matters right now is this...

in the last 11 days we have made up 5 games on the division leaders. Went from 9 1/2 back to only 4 1/2 back.

We're not dead yet."

No argument there. We have had some incredible pitching lately. Hoping it holds out until the bats wake up. I'd really like to believe we are better than the offensive stats I posted. Sorry if I come off negative. I just find it incredible since we own the reigning MVP and batting champ.

With the bad hitting recently and Morneau's slump, do you think it had anything to do with Cuddyer being on the DL? Just wondering if the pitchers can throw him more junk even though Cuddyer hit in front of him. Just a thought.

The stagnant offense continues. We mangaged only four hits tonight and only six total runs in the four game series. Really hurts to split the series as opposed to taking three out of four with having to make up two more games in the standings. I know we are still in it, and not due to our own play, but due to the fact that Detroit(2-8 in last 10) and Cleveland(4-6 in last 10) having fallen off a bit . I don't think the wild card is going to be an option with that going either to the Yankees or Mariners.

"Still waiting for all you GM's to give me what you would have done and who you would have traded for, kept???"

There were a LOT of good hitters available before the trade deadline....to name a few (not saying they are "the" answer - just saying they were available): Mark Teixeira, Wilson Betemit & Troy Glaus. The twins would have been forced to give up a good middle reliever (probably Guerrier and a couple of solid prospects).

Last year was a fluke - the Twins had the exact same needs, which is a decent bat or two with some pop. They chose not to act. 3 or 4 players had career seasons, which got them into the post season, but that's not going to happen this year. Terry Ryan may be a genious in some eyes - but his last really good trade was 3 years ago. He's sitting on his hands doing nothing. With a new stadium in the works at taxpayer expense, wouldn't it be in the best interest to make a run and take a shot??!! Missing the wildcard by a few games doesn't sit well with me - the opportunity was there and it might not be around next year. Ryan didn't have the kahoonas to convince pohlad to move.... and pohlad just wants to field a competitive team at the lowest cost.
