Perm Deer Stand Plans

Recommended Posts

I am looking to add a stand on the property I hunt. It’s going to have walls, a roof, and enough room for another person. I'd like to incorporate a tree into the design and not have it totally be on stilts.

Do any of you have plans for something like this??? Thanks, Brent

Ya, like boar said, this could be a big problem. If you want to have something that will last for years, I would recommend that you not even have it close to any tree that could interfere! Stilts below the frost line or on top of the ground and cabled are the only way to go (if the cables are below the frost line). It will only take a couple of years before a tree will decide to take your stand in several directions. Trust me on this one tongue.gif! Good luck!

I agree. Four stilts is the way to probaby go. I need to get to work on mine one of these years as my boy will be four next hunting season and I'd just like to take him with me a few times each year when younger.

I hope Nels-Bells doesn't mind me posting, but check out the awesome stand he built.

That is something that would last for years and I think he said it only cost him $400 in materials. Much cheaper than most commercially built stands.

Also, have you looked into a nice buddy ladder stand? I got my big game buddy stand for just over $200 on sale and it has a 36 by 44 platform whit a spacious bench seat. You can make a blind that wraps all the way around with camo burlap and buy a separate roof type attachement for it that hooks onto the tree.

You could move it around more that way too. Big game also makes metal quad pod structures that you could build your own box blind on top of. I think they are like $300-$400 depending on the height - 7 to 10 feet up. Would last a lifetime.

A friend built a stand for me like the one posted above with the link. He used steel pipe for the legs and then shingled the roof. Windows on all 4 sides that flip down. Floor is carpeted and I will need to finish the walls inside. It is well insulated and heats up very nice.

I would post a pic but its in the woods and 4 hours away.

Sounds very nice Harvey.

I think I posted this pic last year, but I have kept it as this is along the lines of a tower stand that I think would be good for gun or bow. It has nice slots for shooting a bow from on each side. You could buy shoot through mesh and some double stick velcro and make shoot through windows for each side too. I have to make this a winter project this year. My son loves to build things with me. Sure it takes 10 times as long. But we have a lot of fun at least!

There is a guy who sells Mathew bow's in Britt MN. He has a three D range with stands similar to the one posted. He told me he made his brackets and now sells them. I'm sure you can google his name and number. I was really surprised how sturdy they are. He told me they are very easy to set up. Two guys can put one together in an hour or so. Not including the boxed in top.

Sounds like colonel has a good suggestion. I have a set like in the picture called elevators I bough from sportsmans guide. You can build a 2 x6 frame that bolts into them and then you bolt in the legs. I bought mine two years ago with no action taken on building yet. grin.gif You can get these at Cabelas or Bass Pro too. The blinds are from a company called shadow hunter and are pricey but quality built. You can find them on sportsmansguide too.

My dad gave me four sections of sections of scaffolding, that puts me up 8' an I put a large 4x8 pallet on top of that an built walls an roof an two square holes 10x10" in the floor, opposite corners. I closed up the bottom section right below me with scap tin from my job, I can put in a double mr. heater turn it on so the heat rises up through the square holes an keeps me comfy an no danger to the kids burning themselves. These stands you guys are showing are gorgeous, but you guys all spend a lot more on deer stands than I do. I take it you only have one or two? I have close to 30 permanents on different properties that I use at various times. I'm positive we don't have more that $500 into all of them total. Those are shared between a group of hunters, but that's at least twice as many stands as hunters, probably closer to three times. So mine aren't that nice.

I just build platforms in trees, along with seats, & steps & call it good. Some stands are maybe 2'X 3' others might be 4'X 6', whatever the tree & materials dictate. A few stands have separate ladders built just attached to the tree at the top, most the step are nailed right to the tree. I primarily build them out of whatever scrap lumber I can scavange, but do often use treated, especially for the main supports. I have maybe 2-3 stands with sides on, all the others are open. I don't need sides, it's just one more thing to navigate around when I'm bowhunting out of them, naturally they'd be nice during gun season. If I have got sides they're maybe 3' tall.

I have two big ones and another 15 that are portable as far as hang-ons, climbers and platforms in trees. Also two DB ground blinds.

Its great to have what some might think as too many because whenever the wind changes you have a stand that will work for that wind. A must if you dont want to get busted. I use to move and place stands as I hunted and still do to some degree, but always nice to have stand all over the place.

Some are gun and some bow stands. One needs to also hunt different locations at different times during the seasons.

Here is the almost finished product. The legs are more spread now, there are more cross braces and a ladder off the side.

This is the first time for me posting a pic...hope it works out!
