Deitz Dittrich
ok... I like to practice what I preach... If you read many of my posts I quite often say... That on any given day that a spacific bass may bite on 100 different lures. Its your job to try and find the best for the given spot that he/she is in. To prove this, somewhat.. I had some fun today... I fished from 5:30am till 11:15am this morning. And fished what I would call, a Deitz challenge ... or one fish per lure... As soon as I caught a fish on a style lure, I could no longer use that stlye lure. I had to try and catch them on something else.. Here is how it went for me today. This is what I caught fish on today.(man my boat looked like a porky pine I had rods everywhere.. LOL) Started with a topwater popper, caught one on my second cast... rats, no more poppers... LOL Walk the dog type bait Swimming jig Jig N-Pig Weightless Senko rigged texas style Weightless Senko Rigged Wacky Stupid Rig Carolina Rig Shakey Worm Jig Worm Tube(jig inside) Texas Rig(ribbon tail worm) Dropshot creature bait Dropshot finess worm Spinnerbait. Deep Crankbait(DT16) Medium Crankbait(DT10) My weight for my top 5 bass would have been 17lbs 11oz acording to my scale.. it was a pretty fun morning. What didnt work(what I through out there and didn't catch a fish on) Shallow crank(to be honest I only tried it on one spot for about a dozen casts...) Scum Frog-through it quite a bit, but only after the sun was too high, I kept at it hoping to get one, and finally gave up. Rattle Trap- figgured it would have been one of the easier lure to catch a fish on today, but didn't... eventually lost it to a pike, never tied another trap on. So, whos up for the challenge? You dont have to tell us what lake you were on, or even how big your fish were, just post if your learned somethign from doing it!

skink
This is a great idea! It'll teach all of us a thing or two. Aside from Dittrich.
Deitz Dittrich
skink- I'm learning right along with ya...I leanred today to not always get stuck in a rut of throwing the same baits on the same spots...Its been a while since I through a jighead in a tube, man, I only made about 3 casts with it.. Might go back tomorrow and regular fish again with some presentations I dont normally use.
Mr. Pike1
Interesting. I am addicted to Senko, tubes, and spinners. I always try to introduce one or two lures when out to see what might be a new go to. This technique lead to my passion of the new x-raps for smallies anyway. In the metro more pike and musky then bass find these appealing.I did have an interesting Saturday on the river chasing smallies. We started with spinners, small cranks, senko's and tubes. We found that the bass liked the tubes and senko's but that most hits were when the bait was moving and specifically as it came to the top of the water. Now neither me or my partner claim to be the brightest when it comes to fishing. Just because we love to fish does not mean we are by any means master of the sports. However, based on the reactions it seemed to both of us that a top water presentation might be a good option.Again there were light winds and the water was like glass. We began tossing prop style baits and were not dis-appointed. The smallies were slamming. Many times as soon as it hit the water an attack. Other times as you twitched and pulled it to the boat the would fly out of the water to strike right next to the boat and almost give a guy a heart attack. When I get out next which most likely will not be until Saturday or Sunday morning early I may try the challange. There is also the chance my addiction will lead me to grab my crutch of a Senko or tube and quickly run to the shady side of a dock, rock, of piece of structure. Some habits are hard to break but I will try.

EBass
That's cool Dietz - you must've had bits of fishing line everywhere! I may try it, but right now I'm into the jig/pig and wasn't last year. Next will be the drop shot. I'm trying to work deeper water this summer. Trying being the key word there - lol.
Juan Grande
I always go out with the intent on trying new things. I throw some topwaters, cranks and have recently tried drop shotting. Seems like the only thing that consistenly produces for me is T-Rigged senkos. I've even tried wacky rigging them for something different, but don't get bit. I know it's probably a confidence thing, but it's hard to throw new baits for the sake of trying something new when I know I can catch fish on worms. Gosh would I love to get into a topwater bite for once. I throw scum frogs, buzz baits, poppers, etc. every time out and can't get any takers. Keep in mind that "every time out" for me is once a week max for probably 4 hours so it's not a real big sample size.
Flaco651
A couple days ago after work I decided to take the "Deitz challenge". I was really liking the conditions(overcast) and decided to hit a little lake just down the road.It didn't take long to get the first one on a spinnerbait. Next was a buzzbait. Picked up one of the smallest largies I've seen caught on a buzzbait. Carolina rig in some deeper water was my next choice. Casted out and looked away for a second as my rig sank to 17 fow. Before I looked back to my line I felt it tighten up! A 3lb class bass grabbed it on the drop. I looked through my box and grabbed a rattlin' chug bug. A couple casts and another 3 lber. My buddy had been casting top waters nearly the whole time at this point. As I was rigging up a drop shot set up on my worm rod, he got two more on a topwater. He commented "I'm catching up" It then turned into a numbers challenge between the 2 of us and we both stuck with topwaters. I'll have to take the challenge again and try to get more lures in.
