Wild Thing
Well, let's hear it! I'm heading up Thursday and need some up to date fishing reports. I don't want stale news or conjecture here, I want new reports. Who's out there holding back the info?!!!
jig-em
Was in the area from Wed. through Sunday. Fishing was good on the reefs. Was pleased with the size of some of the fish and the numbers. No real pattern 8-16 feet around the reefs.Good Luckjig-em
Wild Thing
Thanks, Jig-em. Sounds like the same as all summer, no real pattern but pretty good fishing. I think we've had only a couple of slow days all summer, and no real bad days. Hope they stay on the reefs a few more weeks! Where the heck are all the other regulars who usually post here? Scoot
WT, I'm in the same shape as you- headed up there tomorrow evening through Sun. If you see a black Skeeter or a gray/blue Skeeter with Yammies on 'em, swing over and say hi. We'll NW of Morson a ways.
benelli_dude2002
I dont know would I be considered a regular? nah probably not. I was up there 2 weeks ago but I was picking berries but I did get to see the water. Finished the day with great meal at Buena Vista. Gonna be doing a fish fry on aug 5th. probably the closest I will get to a walleye for a while yet. Now when hunting season rolls around I should log in a few days up there. I hope. Not too far til duck season up there. Good luck fishing. B-dude
MuskieDowg
I was just up there Thursday July 19th thru Monday July 23rd. Caught nice size eye's south and west of Manitou. Low wind REALLY helped get out in the big open water. Hammered brass lindy rigs and crawlers did the trick. Caught a HOG 8lb. 28", a 22" and limited out on 16" eaters. All around AWESOME trip!!! Can't wait to get back.
Wild Thing
Thanks dawg. Wind is indeed the key. I hate it. You used my weapon of choice, brass spinner and crawler.... I never use nothin' else after June 15... Scoot, we usually don't get up as far north as you usually go but will be driving my father in law around the lake so we may go for a ride... silver Trophy 19 with Yammies.... I'm already packed... B-dude. You are definitely NOT a regular. You need to get up there MUCH more often! Hope to see ya soon.
Eastwind
This was my year to do a "Summer Vacation" of my wife's choice. The last serious LOW fishing was in May and the next will be in October
HAppnhook
Fished Wednesday through Saturday and did real well. Used huge jigs and stayed over the rock piles. Trolled some with gold spinners but Jigs worked better. 25"23" a bunch in the 20's and a ton of eaters......... Stayed at BV.
Wild Thing
Hot weather, hot fishing!!! The walleyes finally got on top of the reefs for us! Nothing big this trip, biggest was 23, but lots of fish -- even though we only fished a few hours each day. We absolutely slamed them on the shallowest spots on the spot. Even though it was flat calm and hot (76-78 degree water and 88 air temps!!!) they were shallow. The faster I pulled those gold spinners and crawlers, the harder they hit! We were making a wake with my bowmount! It seemed some folks were trying it low and slow in deeper water on the edges of reefs and were not doing so well. I guess it's counter-intuitive that walleyes like to go shallow when it's hot and flat. This may have been the quintessential reef fishing, except no hawgs. I think we would have got into the bigger fish if we had been out for more than a couple hours each day. Word is that muskies are starting to hit, too, but I didn't have time to try. Hand a wonderful shore dinner Friday with three generations. A little breeze and no bugs and walleye out of the frying pan...mmmm... Tons of blueberries. We had ripe blueberries for a full month up there!!! Water is way up, must be right at normal now. But the woods are getting dry again. That's my report. Have to endure two weekends away from the lake then back up on the 16th! Only 42 days until duck season!!!!
Shorelunch
WT, good to here you had a sucessful weekend. Was the water "clairity" like? That's so much fun when they're hitting aggresively trolled spinners - I especially like it when there's some rolling waves!
Wild Thing
Shorelunch; The water clarity was not existant as usual. No algae bloom yet (kind of odd) but the water was a milky green, not sure from earlier wind or rain or what. Maybe that had something to do with why speed trolling worked so well. take care! Scoot
We got back Sun night and had a great trip! Walleyes were really smackin' on the reefs- mostly way up shallow. We did best with jigs, but cruizin' over them with spinners worked for us too. We also got half a dozen muskies, from 38 to 47. Besides some motor problems that cost me one day of the trip, we had a wonderful time!!!
