A last minute road trip was discussed last night, so does anyone have any experience camping at the Zumbro Bottoms campground, or have any recommendations for camping in SE MN this weekend for my girlfriend and I? My girlfriend actually prefers to avoid the crowds, so anyone have any recommendations?

Beaver Creek Valley State Park is beautiful. Check out the "cart in" sites. No mosquitos. Seriously. None.

Only draw back is no swimming. That is one cold creek.

Whitewater is also beautiful.

All the State Parks down there are awesome, but always full reservations on weekends. The only way you will get into state park on a weekend without a reservation is to be at your desired park early (b-4 11:00) Friday, and get a non reservable site at first come first serve. They do say they say hold 30% of sites to first come.

Never camped at Zumbro Bottoms but I have driven through there a couple of times. Looks to be some decent campsites and I think it would certainly be "away from the crowds". No reservations needed. There is a pay box there if I recall and it is like 12 bucks a night or something. Bathrooms and water, I don't recall seeing any showers. There is something like 10-15 campsites maybe???? There is Zumbro River access down the hill and across the road. Plenty of shore fishing along there. Plus, you are only 10-15 minutes away from either Wabasha or Kellog or even West Newton backwaters, etc so lot's of fishing opportunities whether you are fishing from shore, canoe or boat.

Good luck
