Not quite....True Jr. has signed a deal with Sony, but not for sponsorship for his car next year with Hendrick. Here is what I found at jayski's site.

Sony and Dale Jr. and more on Adidas UPDATE: Sony will announce Thursday [6/21] that Dale Earnhardt Jr. has signed a personal endorsement contract with the high-end consumer electronics company. Adidas is set to announce another deal with Earnhardt next month. Sony was an easy choice for Earnhardt, an avid online racing gamer who likes high-tech gadgets and computers. He primarily will hawk high-definition products (such as TVs, camcorders, cameras and Blu-ray disc players) for Sony, joining Peyton Manning and Michelle Wie as its high-profile endorsers.(USA Today)(6-21-2007)

UPDATE: Sony Electronics announced a personal endorsement deal with #8-Dale Earnhardt Jr. of Jr Motorsports to participate in the company's upcoming marketing efforts. The multi-year deal provides Sony the use of Earnhardt's name, likeness, image, voice and endorsement for use in advertising, promotions and merchandising for consumer marketing campaigns aimed at driving sales of Sony Electronics products. Among the products Earnhardt will promote are Sony's high definition BRAVIA televisions in which he will appear in Sony's new HD ad campaign. In addition, Earnhardt will participate in major electronics industry events and trade shows and will make personal appearances each year on behalf of Sony as part of the agreement. Sony Electronics is an active supporter of NASCAR for the past seven years and is the official high-definition TV partner of NASCAR.(Paine PR)(6-22-2007)

So...as of right now it is just a personal endorsement deal.

Exactly HOF...seems to be some confusion about this as I heard it on the radio this morning as well that Sony will be his new sponsor, but as I read it he's just endorsing Sony and has nothing to do with his team or car. Just like Michael Jordan endorsing Gatorade and Nike.

Sony signed a personal agreement with Jr., not a car sponsorship. He will be selling and wearing Sony stuff now. Very simmilar to the Adidas deal that they are talking about as well. Not a car deal, a personal deal.

Right...Besides, the new sponsor for Jr's car next year would sign the contract with Rick Hendrick and Hendrick Motor Sports and not with Dale Jr. Dale Jr. has a contract with Budweiser (personal agreement) but the car sponsorship deal is signed with DEI.

This should explain it better.

On Wind Tunnel the other night they had some fans send in their Photoshop pictures of what Jr's car should look like next year. There were some sharp looking ideas with most of them having Mountain Dew as the sponsor. I see they put them up on W-T's HSOforum now.

Many sponsors put their $ out for more than one driver. Look at yesterday's race, both Ganassi cars were running Target paint schemes, one red & white, one white & red. Pepsi isn't Gordon's primary sponsor either, DuPont is. If you look at any of the team cars, they'll almost all share secondary sponsors, a lot of which are someone elses primary sponsor.
