Make sure your muzzleloader is legal for the state you intend to use it in. I believe some states require at least the .50 cal, so you might want to avoid the .45 cal. Or get both!

I have a TC Omega stainless/camo .50 cal. and it is awsome. I shoot two 50gr Triple 7 pellets and a 243gr sabot. I use it in place of my sluggun.

For Elk I would use a magnum load, 150gr Triple 7 and 295 or 300gr slug.

Check the state regs where you're hunting. Some states do not allow powder in pellet form or sabots.

If you can afford the Omega, that is your best bet. Great gun!! If you are looking to save some $$, check out CVA, they make some quality products for about half the cost. There are other choices as well and I am sure others with chime in. Good luck and check in with us regarding your purchase!!!

I love TC's guns. I have taken a look at the new Triumph. If it fits you nice gun looks user frienly but I didn't like the feel. Not a bad priced gun. The omega is a nice in line muzzleloader only thing I don't like about it is how you have to flip it down to put the primer in the end. I have a Pro Hunter. I like how it breaks in the middle like a shotgun and you can put the primer in that way. I just like the feel better then the omega. If you want to switch barrels check out either the Encore/Pro Hunter other companies are now making them too. I think CVA has one and someone else is making a new one also. If you want to switch barrels get one it's a blast other wise look at the triumph and see if you like it.

Just wondering... have you been elk hunting before? is there any reason why you would start muzzle loading before an elk trip? I am very envious of going out west - would like to make the trip myself very soon.

I have the T/C Omega and its an awesome gun. I'd probaly go Pro-Hunter though if you can afford it instead of the Omega just because it has lots of options on down the line...

Check the state you are going to for regs. Some don't allow in-lines and some don't allow sabotted bullets and things like that. No sense working up a good accurate load only to find out you can't use it...

Thanks for the advice guys, keep it coming. I have am tempted to go for either an Encore or the Pro Hunter. I like the Omega but it doesn't feel quite right when I pull it up. I have to readjust to get on the sights.

I am going to Colorado and there are quite a few regs diffent than MN. I can't use Sabots but am not quite clear on whether I can use Power Belts. I need at least a 50 cal for elk, no scopes, no pelletized powder.

tealitup - this is my first elk hunt. My dad and uncles have been going for 20+ years - I have an uncle living out there so he is our personal guide. They just happen to be muzzleloading this year so I am going to give it a whirl. It will be the first muzzleloading hunt for some of them as well. Should be interesting hoofing it around a couple miles above sea level!!!

      got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out

      Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!

      we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
