Perferred Knot

I use two different knots here. I use the " Arbor Knot " to attach the backing line to the spool. I use the " Uni - Knot " to join the backing to the braided line . Wish I could post pix and instructions. I'm sure you could google this topic and get more info.

I tie a surgeons knot to fuse the mono with the superline. The key is to never get there! I use a palomar for just about everything else. Neither have failed me yet.

Just curious, anyone have any stories about getting to the backing on a big Muskie and were able to land it? It usaully makes for a good story.

i just recently got my first 2 baitcasters so ive only tied on backing 3 times so far and all 3 ive used the uni-knot cuz i always heard it was best. also, each successive try i think ive gotten a better knot and im already feeling pretty comfortable with it. if i dont have to do it again for a while i'll probably have to look at the diagram the next time i do though.

Hiya -

For a backing to superline knot, a uni- to uni-knot is the way to go.

Really though, you could probably tie a granny knot and be fine - you'll never get to the backing with muskies unless you oly have about 70 feet of line on and spool yourself on the cast. Muskies don't run like salmon (ahh, unless you accidentally snag one in the tail I guess - did that once and WOW did it take off shocked.gif)

Honestly, I can see backing on some of my reels when I make a super long cast. Never worried about it. Muskies just don't make long runs...

Cheers,

Rob Kimm
