New boots for bowhunting elk in Sep.

I'm going to get new elk hunting boots. I'll be hunting in WY's Medicine Bow National Forest the 3rd week of Sep. The only requirements I have for my boots so far are that they be lightweight and waterproof.

Tell me what boots I need to get and why. Thanks!

SAY YOU MIGHT WANT TO CHECK OUT THE ROCKY BUCKLIGHT. THEY ARE THE LIGHTEST PAIR ON THE MARKET LESS THAN 2.5# PER PAIR.THEY COME IN A VARIETY OF STYLES. COST IS AROUND $100-120. NICE BOOT.

forget about rocky's too pricey and don't hold up, I've got a pair of muck boots that I have hunted in fron -20 to +80 and could not be happier, great treds and good support on the ankles for the high country.

I've always used rockys elk hunting in colorado and they do me just fine. Good Luck on the trip!

I picked up a pair of Danner Pronghorns and couldn't be happier. I put on 11 days hunting turkeys in some pretty up and down terrain this spring. Not nearly as rocky as the MB, but ankle support was great, the arch-support phenomenal, very waterproof, and super lightweight. They've got 400 grams Thinsulate, so I think they'd be great for what you're looking at.

Another plus was the wearability and break-in period was short. I never blistered up, and I'm a tender-foot! Good leather that didn't dry-up then crack after crossing streams then drying up and doing it again, day after day.

I think I paid ~$160 for them. Worth every penny vs. several Rocky's and Cabela's brand boots I've owned.

They may be expensive, but I am a Danner fan as well. Elk Hunters I believe are the ones that I have.

I hunted in Rocky's for many many years, last fall I tried a pair of Danner Pronghorn's "can you say happy feet". I hunted in them all last fall, winter, ice fishing, and three states chasing turkeys this spring.

Nothing negative to say.

I also use to be a Rocky's fan but ever since buying my Danner Pronghorns, I don't think I will buy anything else. I wear them for everything: hunting, ice fishing, snowmobiling, fourwheeling, lawn mowing, golfing....

I will throw in for the Danners as well. My girlfriend got a pair a couple years ago and raved about them as she hunted grouse all weekend after purchasing them on the way up. I got a pair for myself and can say they are the best I have put on.

Meindl boot are suppose to be the best boots out there. I work with surveyors and they put alot of miles on there feet and these are what most of them wear especially the ones that work in the badlands. I will be getting the pair cabela's has that are $159 for my trip to MT elk hunting. They are suppose to be awesome. Rockies aren't as good as they use to be in my opinion. I think they weren't better a few years ago. Danners are as expensive as Meindl so it is a wash on those two brands for price.

I'll vote for the Rockys, I probably have 8 different pairs. They fit me well, they're reasonably priced, well made, waterproof, comfortable, you can buy lightweight early season boots or heavy weight late season boots. Of course, if you're going on a once in a lifetime elk hunt, go for the best, try the Meindels. I may even try the Danners after hearing all the good words about them. It doesn't bother me to pay $100+ plus for a good pair of boots because you generally get what you pay for and they'll last you a long time. Good luck!

I used to think Cat boots were good until I bought my first pair of redwings and now my feet can't stand Cats anymore. But as someone who is on my feet most of the day that is the one think I won't cheap out on is my foot wear you for sure get what you pay for. Kind of the same deal for me and Rockies my first were good and now they have been worst for me. I have a nice pair of Irish Setters that I really like but they are going to be too warm for Sept elk hunting for me. They were too hot last year in Oct for pronghorn. But I think a pair of Mendils will be in my future I have a Cabela's gift certificate that is burning a hole in my pocket .
