BATS!!!

Recommended Posts

Last night I had a bat dive bomb me as I was walking up the steps to my house. It ws "hanging" out in the corner. This morning while heading out, I noticed a bunch of bat dump on my siding. Is there any good way out there to keep these rabies carrying pests away from my house. Any spray or product that they don't like? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I don't feel like being John Candy or Chevy Chase and chase it around with a tennis raquet like they did the in the classic movie "The Great Outdoors."

I thought about that... But the idea of sitting on my front step with a headlamp and breaking the silence of the night by flinging # 8's at a bat could only lead to more problems. Even though it would be kinda fun, I think the neighbors would frown upon it.

Just think how good your aim will be by fall if you declared open season on them little buggers!? Then ad the element of night shooting in that, boy that sounds like a bunch of fun. Do you think you can find a few more of its friends (bats) because I would be willing to come over with a case of beer and help out. wink.gif : grin.gif

I just wonder how they would taste on the bbq or smoked!!!

All serious now but maybe I would look into making or purchasing a bat house for your friend? Bats are really good for keeping insects like misquitos in check and other little bugs that fly around. "If you build it they will come" and put the bat house some where more convenient for the both of you just not at your front door.

Otherwise during the day when they should be in sleep mode get a leather glove and grab him and find a new home for him.

Good Luck,

Mosquitoes or bats, which one do you see to be the bigger problem? Bats will eat way more mosquitoes than most people's favorite bug eaters: Martins. Give them a bat house away from your place and they shouldn't be that big of a problem. I don't mind seeing them OUTSIDE. Inside, now that's where the tennis raquet and flyswatter come out in full force!

I notice at some of the ballparks I play at they hang an owl statue under the grandstand that keeps the bats away.

It is John Candy and Dan Akroyd in the movie and not Chevy Chase. Just a little side note.

Last night i got up in the middle of the night for a drink of water and found a bat zig zagging around my living room and kitchen. Does somebody make a Bat trap? I REALLY don't like the idea of a bat in my house. Any suggestions?

If you dont want them inside the house you have to find out where they are getting in and close it up. The last place I was at we'd have a bat in the house every night. Went to bed one night and had 4 flying around in my bedroom alone. That was pretty funny to my roomates as I stood outside my door and whacked anything that came out with a badmitten racket.

We found where they were commin in (rotten sophet on the east side of the house) so what we did was take some scaffolding and placed a stock tank filled with water right underneath the hole in the sophet. The idea is that bats have to drop a little before they can start to fly so they will drop into the water and they wont be able to climb out of a galvanized stock tank. After the first night we had close to 60 bats in the tank. Then we closed up the hole in the sophet, forcing the remaining bats to come through the house, where we were waiting every night with tennis rackets. It was bat genocide for a while but that took care of it.

Some favorite bat killing devices of ours:

Golf Club

Cooler lid

Shovel

Broom

Whiskey bottle

Thanks for the ideas guys...... however I chose to go a slightly different route. I used a coffee can and then released it outside. When I released to I saw two robins that were in a tree in my backyard attack the bat in midair. I sealed up a hole where my siding and foundation meet and gave the rest of the house a good once over. Should be good. Thanks Again.
