Jr. going to Hendrick?

Recommended Posts

I just read an article on Yahoo and they said basically what has already been talked about - Hendrick has 4 teams already and RCR has 3 teams and strong ties to Jr.

The one dark horse they brought up was Joe Gibbs Racing - Stewart and Jr have worked real well together in the past on restrictor plate tracks, when Hamlin came into Nascar Jr befriended him and gave him lots of advice, and finally Jr is a big Redskins fan and was wearing a redskins cap at a testing session in the last week or two. Not that the last part means anything.

I think RCR probably has the best shot at getting Jr but I think Gibbs Racing could make things really interesting as a dark horse.

Yeah, I like the Gibbs factor. I just read that, too. I mean don't get me wrong - I'd would love to see Jr. in the 3 car - but, dang, that would almost seem to.... contrived? story-bookish? WWE-like? I ain't sayin' I'm just sayin'. One thing is for sure, this is going to get really interesting how this plays out.

I personally think he may want to go drive for Gibbs with his pals Stewart and Hamlin. The pressure he'd be under in that #3 car at RCR would not suit his carefree style very well. Hendrick says they are full up with drivers for their four cars, but I'd sure dump Casey Mears for Jr. if I was them...

Regardless, this is big news. Not NEARLY as bad for DEI as the original rumor of him and Truex leaving together though. DEI can make Truex their #1 guy and bring up Menard and they'll get by. Then in a year or two, whenever a top tier guy opens up in Silly Season, snatch someone else to get back to three cars.

This just in..............Jr to drive the 24 in '08, Gordon to take over the retired #3 and Kyle Busch moves to DEI to drive the #8.

Kinda makes the commercial where Jr. announces his number is changing even funnier.

Did I just hear Limit Out hit the floor?

I was listening to some commentary about this situation and Jr. was asked how Teresa reacted when she heard the news. Jr's response was "Just like everyone else who heard about it on the news last night."

He didn't even waste a dime to call her.

That's funny right there, I don't care who ya are. grin.gif

That's hilarious! With the name of Sacks they could get a grocery store sponsor and his tag line could be "paper or plastic?"

In the press conference today Jr. said he wouldnt be comfortable driving the 3 and all that comes with it. there is a theory out there saying that if he does go to RCR they could work out a trade between the 3 and the 8. how bout Jr. going to Ginn racing and becoming the lead dog on another team instead of being at best second or third behind established drivers on the other teams? and afterall Ginn is basically the stepchild of Hendrick running their chasis and engines.
