nofishfisherman
I just started using the Mister Twister Sassy Shad this year while shore fishing Pool 2. I have done well on them for walleye and alot of smallies.Who else uses the sassy shad and in what situations do you find them most productive on the lake? Do you find they can completely replace a live minnow when jigging? Any color favorite for walleye, I fish mainly stained water.
palisade1kid
I'll get 100's of eyes on that black & pearl combo. Great bait NF!
nofishfisherman
I guess you and I are the only ones interested in using them. I can't wait to giving them a shot on my favorite walleye lake. They don't get used up there at all by anyone I have ever seen so I am very curious as to how they will produce.Looking forward to getting those black and pearl. I picked up a 10 pack the other night just to hold me over for a little while and they did pretty well for me on the river.I'll be trying to hit them again tonight after seeing PB's report. palisade1kid
they take week to get in so sometime next week I'll have to make the run.
shamalex72
I used to use them quite a bit. One thing I would do is cut a notch just in front of the tail, that would give it a little more action.
palisade1kid
Heating them up with a lighter works for those brands with too much hardener in the plastisol. I found a very soft version that has a ton of action without cutting them. Here's one in a walleyes mouth.
nofishfisherman
Here's one of my walleye caught on a gold Sassy Shad, its a self taken picture with a very un cooperative walleye. Good looking belly though.
palisade1kid
It sure is fun when you feel that single pip, wait 2 seconds then rear. Then comes the head shake. Doh! Fish on!
Deitz Dittrich
I use Sassy Shads on a lot of species.. More Bass than anything.. but you bet I throw a few out for the walleye. My fave color is Rainbow Trout, but it looks nothing like a rainbow...LOL
nofishfisherman
The Smallies on pool 2 have been eating them up pretty good the last month or so. This one was caught on the same sassy shad as the picutre I posted above. It actually came on the very next cast after releasing the walleye. palisade1kid
That's the beauty of the bait. It's not specie specific. I've caught walleye, pike, bass, perch, crappie, dogfish bullhead, sucker, blue gills all on the sassyshad style baits. Here's a few pics from last years catch on the shad. They catch big eyes too. I've seen 10-13 lb eye get caught & released in the past on them. I just love them.
Superduty
Sassy shads and bass pro shops versions are my "go to" bait on pool 4 both spring and fall. I've had days when the walleye pros will idle over to my bass boat and want to know what the heck we are using to catch all those walleyes/saugers! bgreen82
i have some black/pearl shad that i rig on a jighead and cast and retrieve. how else are you guys using them. im gonna have to try cutting above the tail. it seems like sometimes you have to reel pretty fast to get great action on them. You can heat them up with a lighter too.I 'll go with Mr. Twister or Gander Mountain has them in bulk which are softer ones.Rattle Snakes are way to stiff.
