Buying advice... boat Saturday

Someone out there have a 2000, 4 Sroke Yammy EFI 115 HP,

if so, how do you like it,

2000 Alumacraft Trophy i'm test driving this weekend and was wondering if anyone else runs this setup.

I have been running 115hp yammys for the last 6 years and love them. Went to the 4 stroke 2 years ago and was extremely happy with the gas mileage and efficiency of the motor. I run it approx. 70 days a summer and other than normal maintence I havent had a single issue (knock on wood) That includes the previous 2 stroke I ran also. I am a Yamaha lover for sure.

I have always used yamahas marine oil. I figured they would know what they wanted in their engines. And I do alot of trolling with mine so I will change my oil mid summer then again in the fall.

What size Trophy? I have a 180 with a 115 Suzuki on it. Top speed is about 34mph. I do wish I had bought a bigger motor with the boat, now it is cost prohibative to do so.

You will LOVE the Yammie 4-stroke 115. Hit the key and its running before you can let go of the key. Time after time,hot or cold, summer or fall. I truly don't know what else a guy could ask for....and I've been fooling around with outboard motors for more than fifty years.

its a 175, i don't need a big boat just a boat that will last.

do you guys run inline gas filters? its the first thing im adding then a battery charger, can't believe it doesnt have one but old timers have their ways

I am buying a new rig also, how about maintance costs on the 4-stokes vs 2-strokes? I have heard its more, do you have to have the value timing adjusted?

Mine has a filter under the hood. And as for maint. change oil every 100 hours, for most once a year, and lower unit lube. Changing motor oil takes about 20 minutes, and costs about $25. That sure outways buying 2 cycle oil and burning it. As for valve adjustments, dont worry about that, unless it starts to back fire or other problems. And that isnt very comon. Timing belt is a maint item, but I have never heard of one breaking, and I dont plan on replacing mine untill it is 10 years old. Right now it is 6 yrs old and it looks new, I put about 150 hrs a year on mine. Thats about it, change fluids 1 time a year and go!

I had my timing belt changed this spring after 5 years and it cost about $200 at a shop. It still looked good and I may have gotten by with out changing it for a couple more years.

You may want to consider a fuel/water seperator for it. With the way the fuel these days is a blend there is more water in there and it can wreak havoc on your outboard. I will be installing one on my rig this spring yet just to be safe.

If you have never seen one it looks like an oil filter except your fuel line goes in and out of it before the primer bulb or before the fuel gets to the engine and inline filter. They sell them at Cabela's if you are interested.

Mine came with a water seperator installed, I run my boat alot, it sees lots of fuel, I havent ever seen a drop of water in the seperator!
