LwnmwnMan2
We've got a woodchuck living under our wood (groundlevel) deck, right against the blocks for the footings of the garage.I'va already pulled up the first 3 boards, and see where the "den" is, is there anything I can put down there that they would eat and die?? Something like Talprid for moles??I walked outside one day and he dove down in there, so we tried flooding him out with a garden hose, but after about 30 minutes, the hole still hadn't filled up with water, nor did the 'chuch come out, so we figured that since it was sand, that the water was either running out, he had more tunnels / dens than we could see, or there was another way out, that we just cannot find from around the deck.I know a livetrap would possibly work, any other suggestions?? FISHINGFARMER
If the den hole is next to the garage footings they have more than likely already undermined under your garage flooring. We had the same thing happen one year in a shop we had that had cement flooring in it. I would suggest to first drop a sulpher bomb down the hole and see if there is any other (exit) they have created from the main opening you have found. This might drive them out by itself, have gun in hand on stand-by. If there is no sulpher smoke coming from any other hole. GAS them, If your able to get a 4-wheeler, lawn mower, or any other type of vehicle close enough to the deck, put a hose over the exhaust, stick the other end in the hole, pack the fill dirt or sand they have mound up for the entrance and let the gas run in for about 15 minutes or so. This did the trick when this happened under our shop floor. Hope this helps you out and good luck getting rid of them. Get this done or another method soon before they do to much damage under your garage. Farmer

JohnMickish
The last ones I got where at Fleet Farm, in the rodent removal isle.Don't you think that he will start to stink if you get him under you deck?
Ufatz
Plrase use poison ONLY as a last resort. I sympathize with your problem but you never know where poison is gonna go after you use it.

FISHINGFARMER
Don't you think that he will start to stink if you get him under you deck? Don't worry about the smell once they are dead from the gas. They are buried already, once you close the entrance with the fill dirt or sand when you insert the hose to gas them. Hands free burial Good luck, this should mostly likely work for you, with little effort getting the job done. Farmer

Anyways, nothing came scurrying out, whether that hole or any other around there. Nor was there any smoke coming up from somewhere else under the deck. So.... either that got him, or he wasn't under there at the time. Worst part is, we've had a mouse / squirrel / chipmunk hole not 2 feet from where that den is. Well.... when I set off the bomb, I must not have that hole sealed off 100%, because MAN did the house stink for a while... Good thing it was at least 40 yesterday and the wife was at the mall all day.
18 inch Crappie
A good gopher trap will get him, then put a .22 into his head, worked for me.
LwnmwnMan2
I thought I'd post an update. So far I've bombed the tunnel twice, set live traps. This morning we heard rustling from the bedroom window, looked out, and the woodchuck is dragging leaves under the deck. I came home for lunch, look out, and the thing is sprawled out on the deck, using the garden hose we were trying to flood him out with as a pillow?!?!?! FREAKING SUNNING HIMSELF!!!! He's toying with me now.... Anyways, of course as soon as I walked around the corner with the gun he dove back into the new tunnel he's created. The worst part is, with the deck being about 1' off of the ground, we can't get under the rest to see what he's got for tunnels in other places. New Yankee
Now that IS funny! After reading your post I thought about poison - so I googled "what do woodchucks eat". Found a site that may help you - bugspraydotyouknow - has a long article on woodchucks and how to get rid of them. Keep us posted!!
Bobby Bass
Back a few years ago my neighbor had three of the buggers living under his barn, They would rule the yard but as soon as he open a door they would be gone. I told him I would sniper them for him and he said na they not hurting anything. After they ate half is garden I got the green light. I took them out from my bedroom window and they never saw it coming. I think you are far better taking them out in the open then trying to poison them and having them rot. Time to go Rambo on them !! good luck either way
eurolarva
A piece of symtex and a good insurance plan for the house is what you need.
FISHINGFARMER
GAS the critters!!! In another month you will have three times as many to deal with! More than likely you have them now, they just aren't old enough yet to venture out of the den yet. Farmer
