BassAkwards
I just bought a 16 ft lund, with a 20 hp till. I'm wondering what size trolling motor to buy? any suggestions? Thanks
0 gunflint
I would think that a 55# thrust 12 volt would handle it.
0 Surface Tension
I agree with Gunflint, 55'lb would be my choice. In fact if you wanted more thrust you'd have to go with a 24 volt motor. A 16' with a 20hp outboard, that extra battery will be a hassle not to mention more weight. That weight if in the stern will blow your ability to get on plane. 0 Cliff Wagenbach
I agree,a 12V. 55# thrust should be plenty for that size boat.Cliff
0 volksdriver
....I have a 12v 50lb thrust on my 16ft "S" Lund.... works like a charm in current and wind....battery is mounted in the bow
0 MuskieJunkie
You could get away with a small one (36), but get the biggest one you can afford, you can always turn the power down.
0 SWMuskeye
I have a 16' boat also, and I can tell you that the original 30' thrust just doesn't cut it in any wind or waves. A 55' thrust with a long shaft is the way to go. You'll only need the extra oompf in rougher seas, but you'll be real glad you did.
0 Krebber
Just sold my 16-ft Lund Rebel. I put a 36-lb on the stern when I first got it the boat in 98 and added a 55-lb bow mount a few years later. Both were 12V. The stern was effective only in relatively calm conditions. The bow was awesome in all conditions. In fact, once I added the bow, I never used the stern. Short story: 55-lb bow and you'll be set.
